Is your 06 Impreza the 2.0R model with the twin cam motor? I seem to remember these had reports of "flat spots" in acceleration when they were first released. It's a while back but I remember some talk that the issue was corrected by a firmware update on the ECU. Also, if it is the twin cam you shou...

Thanks for the info sven 2, very interesting to see you had the exact same issue. I've used J W Lawrence before a couple of times and the results have always been excellent. Was wondering about the helicoil option with the head in situ - looked like it would be difficult and I had my doubts if it wo...

Yeah, thought about not being done up properly but I couldn't get in there properly to verify this as the spark tubes are very narrow and I don't have a suitable tool to get down there. Just feeling through the lead though and it feels like it's locking onto something solid and not a plug that's rat...

Has Subaru Service killed my car?
Hi, Just after thoughts on this, but I recently had my MY06 2.0i Impreza serviced and included in this was replacement of the spark plugs. Last night going home, the car lost power and it was immediately evident it wasn't firing on 1 cylinder. Quick check under the bonnet and the spark lead on the f...

Just noted the OP mentioned that it does also boil, so definitely sounds like things are getting hot and the guage is probably reading correctly. Given the thermostat has been changed it would probably be and idea to have a closer look at the radiator as steptoe mentions, especially if it's still th...

You could also try to see if the ECU is reporting any fault codes? I'm not sure how this is done for your model but I'm sure someone here could advise. I'm also sort of thinking maybe a temperature sensor fault, or apparent temperature sensor fault? Friend of mine had a 93 EJ22 Liberty that behaved ...

if its not a fuel problem, pull the top of your dizzy off and see if its spinning when you crank it over, if it isn't then your timing belt has snapped as thats what happened to my mates last week. Good suggestion, but I don't think you'll find a dizzy on a 92 Lib. As Fatz mentions check it for spa...

Hi, I have an 06 Impreza and having now had it a few years I personally on occasion wonder if I should have stretched the budget a bit more at purchase time and gone for a Forester. Main issues I have is size limitations on the Impreza, the back seat is cramped which adults always grumble about if t...

what size tires are you using now?... Yeah, second that question. If you have 14's with high profile rubber you're changing the effective gearing of the vehicle enough to be noticeable and it will result in a loss of acceleration and speed up hills as it will be like driving one gear higher than wh...

Our Mitsubishi 380 (3.8L) can get nearly 700km/tank, surely there shouldn't be that much of a difference between the two. If the the 380 is anything like the V6 Magna I had then it will be unbelievably economical for a V6 with that capacity so you won't be able to really compare it to the Tribecca ...

Thanks for that Gremlin. Any way to check this valve business in the compressor? Not that I know of, other than to get another known good compressor and swap them over and see if it resolves the problem. (might not be cheap though, unless you can find someone with one sitting around surplus that yo...

Sounds like the airshocks problem is due to an air leak somewhere in the system rather than a problem with the electronics. The airshocks are known to misbehave in funny ways like you're describing once they get a bit older so it may just be co-incidental that they've decided to fail at the same tim...

Are you actually on a steady throttle when it is surging or alternating between completely throttled off and slightly on throttle? I have an 06 Impreza that is an interesting drive on some downhill runs (usually gentle downhill runs at city speeds) as it's impossible to find a throttle setting to gi...

Just further on the head gasket, in my experience with EA82T's a blown headgasket doesn't normally result in oil and water mixing which is not to say it can't happen but there's a good chance you won't notice any coolant getting into the oil. The most obvious indication of a blown head gasket is the...

Yeah watch out if it's a long weekend and you're not lifted. If there's been lot's of larger 4WD traffic it can get fairly chewed up. Brother in law managed to get his stock Outback very stuck a few years ago on a long weekend when the ruts left by the larger 4WD's just got too deep and he ended up ...
