The Brant has nothing to do with the ecu, it is just a secondary immobiliser like any other alarm system and can be removed easily. The only extra things with a late model engine you have to consider are, as Brett mentioned, the key barrell and key must be used, along with the immibiliser module tha...

You will have to check the pinout carefully to ID the difference. It's not obviously different or anything, just all the pins layed out differently. In 97 they started standardising the pinouts. The 2l,2.2,2.5,2.0T and 2.0TT manuals all had the same basic pinout. The turbos just had extra pins for t...

97/98 EJ22 ecu's have a capacity discrimination pin to change from EJ20 to EJ22. I have never tried it but it is clearly marked on the wiring diagrams and the ecu ID's itself as an EJ20 when you plug the monitor in even though they are all EJ22's. This is Gen 2 series 2 only, it is a completely diff...

It's OBD11 and there are 100 odd codes so you need to check it with a monitor. Common codes are cylinder misfire(yes the ecu can tell which one). This is due to the 1.1 gap platinum plugs wearing out before 100k km. I normally ditch the 1.1's for the .8mm plugs from the second gen EZ30R. Remember th...

How do you know a VF38 is ball bearing? From googling it or from actually seeing one. The VF38 is not in the same family as a 36/37. It is a completely different turbo. There is no harm in using a VF38 but I don't think you will get any benefit from it and you will only add complexity to the headers...

. The dark forces in my brain are agitating for a TS BB VF38 and seperate pipes from each head to the TS turbine housing should not be to hard to make . If the funds don't stretch then a fresh TD04 wouldn't be too foul either . Cheers A . A TS turbo is not going to work as intended on an EA82 becau...

I also like your write up that makes it out to sound like you did this in a weekend - I pretty much did. Pulled the old engine and box on Saturday evening after work, H6 was in by 7.30. Back sunday morning and bolted the box and diff in. Dash out, wiring out, finish off rewire(I had started the wir...

Al, have you seen the H6 build-ups on NASIOC and clubsub.org.nz ? The NASIOC one is built by Perrin (and put in to an Impreza) and goes thru the different pistons, rods, headwork etc they needed for boost and i'm pretty sure the clubsub one is similar but just by some guy and not as technical. Both...

It's the auto Ben, it sucks the life out of the engine. My bro has a std H6 like yours and it is as you say, smooth but not really impressive(unless you step out of our ej25 into it, THEN it's impressive). I was very surprised how responsive and willing the engine is. It lugs happily from low speeds...

No cutting of the body work needed. It bolts in place on the factory H6 mounts(different to EJ). I considered it to be very straightforward actually, although conversions are my speciality. Apart from the wiring it is something that the average mechanically competent person could do. The engine is v...

H6 powered Gen 2 Liberty.
Hi all, this is my latest project. It is a street car but I thought the conversion itself would be relevant to offraod people because I think this engine would be brilliant for a serious offraod Subaru because it has sooo much torque. I bought the wagon for a reasonable price after selling a previou...

Sounds a bit like the common EJ22 fault(assuming it is still an EJ22, you don't say) of lifters overcoming the valve springs and losing power, usually on hills. By the time you lose power and pull over the car either stalls and is hard to restart(sounds like it has no compression initially, because ...

No bolt on turbo for a subaru is going to be any use at 29psi. Looks like you have an MY01 engine but I can't make out the turbo. Looks like a VFxx from the actuator though. Depending on the exhaust housing size it will only be good for 23psi at most, that's for the biggest nugget(VF22). All you wil...

ISC faults can occur simply because it is sticking. Undo the screws that hold the motor on top and check that the valve swings freely. There is not much else that can go wrong(other than failure of the motor wiindings) if there is 12v supply and the open and close wires have continuity and aren't gr...

Yes it is around 100degrees, earlier models were 95. If you have the fans wired so the A/C requset operates them than they will work with engine temp as well. You can test them by connecting the green and black plugs and switching the ignition on. The fans will switch on and off repeatedly. When you...
