OK, so i'm stuck with the old wagon for a bit longer, and on my to do list are such things as clutch replacement, belts to be replaced, maybe 14" rims, paint and tinting, decent facia kit and installing a uhf radio so i can bag out two of my brothers while out exploring. Too much grease applied during fitment of new bearings, damage to seals during cv renewal/manipulation or a loose outer section of front hub can do this---i packed the new bearing assembly in my L with way too much g...

If you're getting 400k's to a tank, even with a struggling ea82, don't be too hasty with rebuilds or removals ,jeeze you're getting at least 40klm further than i do on a tank! Seriously though, try a squirt of throttle cleaner, check the spark gaps-dizzy cap-leads etc....

Might sound silly but did you check the thermostat and it's housing? Only time mine has overheated was when the thermostat housing cracked, and while 4wheeling on the beach after a very dodgy oil change, which resulted in cracked/damaged heads. After motor pull down, found gaps (!) between cylinders...
