I've done the 6 stud conversion and used the link Toonga's posted as a guide. If you have a look at this link on the UK forum you can see some pictures of the conversion as part of my build write-up:

Mate, I had an engine that did this and got progressively worse. Checked oil level, changed oil and filter but still carried on. Eventually the engine let go catastrophically - no 3 piston went through the crankcase. On inspection turns out the guy I had bought it from had put some crap in it when r...

Just for info, I got a new tank made for my Brumby by a guy from a company called OEC international who build overland project vehicles and run challenge events. He counselled against using Aluminium for the structure material and built it from mild steel instead. This was for two reasons: aluminium...

Guys I had the same problem few years back and went through everything - new fuel pump, filters, even the fuel line through the cab. Turned out it was a simple fix on the filter. Most filters come with 8mm inlet/outlet which tapers down to 6mm so it can be fitted to a variety of vehicles. Subaru lin...

Thanks Brumbyrunner,

Yeah, I think getting sufficient airflow will be tricky. I see you fitted an uprated water pump to cope with mounting your rad in the back. What would be your estimate on the maximum hose length the stock EA81 pump could cope with?

Cheers,

John

Hmmm that is a big bit of cooling aparatus. Was hoping to use the stock radiator or similar in size and mount it further back on the spare wheel area perhaps using the spare wheel bracket that goes between the 2 strut towers. There was a blue hatch I remember seeing on the net somewhere which I thin...

Brumby Radiator mounting

Has anyone got any pictures or info on mounting a radiator above the engine in a Brumby please? I want to move the radiator from its traditional location to avoid water, stone and branch damage. The vehicle has a 3 inch lift so there is plenty of room. Intention is to fit a buck-shee impreza scoop t...

Dean,

That is great info. Thanks very much for clarifying that for me - was starting to get very confused as to what I had got my hands on.

Cheers,

Attached is a picture of what I've got. I've seen pictures from the Hatch patrol of early ea81 model hatches and wagons with the same grills but can't find the correct corner lights anywhere.

Brumby headlights

I have acquired a GL (?) cycolps eye centre fog light and grill to go on my brumby/brat/mv but I can't find the right headlight bezels and corresponding corner lights to fit. The standard 198 ones have the wrong shape where they butt up to the centre grill. I think I need early ('81-'82) shape bezel...

Just done mine. I used clear plastic sheet and black marker pen to make a template so both sides came out the same when I cut. Then I made one cut from the bottom to about third of the way up the wheel arch but still keeping the cut metal joined at the top and then folded it behind the remaining arc...

Weber carburettor on EA81

I have a Weber 32/36 DGEV carburettor mounted on a late-model (1992 UK) EA81 in a Brat. It has electric choke. The original Hitachi carburettor had all manner of pipes and widgets on the manifold to iron out its performance, none of which I preusme I now need. Does anyone have a diagram or clear pic...

Those are 1986 Toyota Hi-lux flares from Bushwhacker. Can't remember why I know that but I did the research you are doing and I think there is something on the owner's website. I've been looking at Suzuki Jimny flares cos the arches are a similar shape to a brat and Jimny's are mega popular over her...

You can use it, but it requires a bit of work. You just have to take your pedal box out - 6 bolts, 3 circlips to remove pedals, 1 elctric plug for brake lights and take clutch pedal off before you remove the box. Takes 5 mins. Then just drill 2 holes and mount bolts through them to brace the pedal-e...

EA81 oil cooler

Has anyone fitted an oil cooler to an EA81 - baja beetle style? Was thinking of doing it just to give the engine a hand when its struggling with the gloop of an english winter and having to rev hard for a long period. Was just interested in any solutions/pictures.

Cheers,

I'm doing this conversion at the moment too. Looks like all the additional tubing that goes into making the Hitachi working better can go. Have wired the automatic choke to one of the wires that went into the Hitachi. You can also blank off one of the fuel returns on the Weber. In terms of getting a...

Winch size for a Brumby

Just wondering what capacity winch to fit to the front of my Brumby. I want something that has the guts to actually pull me out of the s*** when i get stuck but at the same time I don't want something so heavy that the whole front of the truck is going to suffer from the weight. Has anyone got any s...

You will have to adapt the mounts from your old MY box in order to mount the L-series box. If you have alook you will see that lengtheneing the mounting h...
