Getting access under dash

Hey peeps I'm ready to put my driving lights on my '92 lib, however my POS haynes manual is crap at giving instructions on removing the dash. I don't want to take the instrument cluster out, just the top panel that sits on top. Will that give me sufficient access to the top of the firewall? Cheers, ...

Well done mate! I too got my EJ going last week!!! I have the same excitement you have as well! Glad it went well for you. With the rough idle, checkout the vacuum lines, it'll take only one line to screw things up! Cheers Bennie Great feeling eh? Mate, could you possibily email me a photo of the b...

I've done, he's back!

Well after lots of work stretching over 2 months i've finally got my Scoobs running again! I'll do a full write up soon but i'm on my last teaching rounds and don't have much spare time - I look forward to putting all the pics up and sharing the work I've done. He's still running a bit rough, but SO...

Check condition of clutch - peddle free play, take up - cruise along at a consistant speed, then put the clutch in till engine revs a good 2k more than current rpm, drop clutch and car should lurch... if not dodgy clutch. Listen carefully for any sounds of rattling in the steering - do a couple of c...

just go a turn or so back from lock, you'll hardly be making huge gains in turning circle by running full lock... it really isn't good for the system to hold it at lock, needless wear and tear...

check your power steering fluid level too.

Trailing arm mounts price?

Hey folks, Subaru frankston quoted me $65 per mount for the ob trailing arm mounts needed for lib lifted suspension mods. Most of the threads i've seen on here had them priced around $35-45... is this just outdated and they're now stupid expensive? Anyone on here than can help me out with a decent p...

Score one more for the DIY option. This friday is the big day of putting the engine back in after my ej22 shat it's water pump and blew both head gaskets. I also suggest against a 'new' engine as you don't know it's history and may end up having to do the heads anyway. From the few wreckers I called...

Not sure if the EAs have access to the fly wheel through the bellhousing or not? Check for a little removable plastic cap near the engine-transmission join - it might only be on the ej series... I shoved a big ol screwdriver in there which my dad held in place with a crowbar. This stoped the cranksh...

No worries mate! Why do you need them?! The rear cam cover - I'm guessing you're talking about the cover on the driver's side at the back of the motor? ^^ Actually I mean the plastic covers that sit in front of the heads, behind the chamshaft sprockets, what i'd call the backside of the timebelt co...

Sorry for the hijack bennie, but if you (or anyone else) sees any rear cam covers for the ej22 at wreckers can you please nab them for me? Beers and cost of parts will be the just reward.

Cheers,
Owen.

NOICE! Massive amount of effort going in bennie, I thought you were just going mechanical, not full electrics too! Are you putting cruise control in?

I'm thinking a trip out eildon way once you're all done?

best hoses and lines for ejs?

Hi folks,

I'm replacing the fuel lines, vacumm, heater, and coolent hoses in my lib once I've finished reassembling the engine.

What brands have you have had good (or bad!) experiences with and would recommend, cost, and where to purchase them too...

Thanks,
Owen.

Double check the VIN plate. In my 92 lib its in the rear left hand corner of the engine bay next to the strut top, not sure about the outback. Otherwise It may be stamped on the engine, but may be covered by the inlet manifold? Not sure, sorry...

What'd you do to it exactly?

mate, if you're using haynes remember to cross reference with the '92 lib manual available from this forum - showthread.php?t=7011 I've found it goes into much more detail than the haynes and it's often had something thats saved me from disaster or made life easier...

Our workshop advises new bolts to be fitted That was what I was advised by three seperate mechanices and subaru engine rebuild specialist, maybe they're just after my cash . But, I'm happy to pay a little bit extra for new bolts if it prolongs the overall life and gives me peace of mind......

for? because the correct torque on the heads will likely prevent warping

against? Each time you remove the heads you're supposed to re-tap the threads and replace the head bolts. Not sure if adjusting them requires the same treatment?

Removing pistons and valve springs from ej22

Hey there folks, Hit a road block in my tear down of my ej22. The manaul suggests making some sort of special tool to remove the piston pins, something about bending the end back to hold the pin to pull it off... ah how are we supposed to bend the end back if the tool is inside the block??? Wonderin...
