Got the PM, thanks Mango, I just want the heads, do you know anyone going to the Mon Repos/Turtles/Bargara trip, who you could send them with and I can pay for them there. Jan 13th to 15th. If not, I can send a money order or bank cheque including bus freight. I wont be near Brizzie for a while. I l...

I have renewed the radiator, but not a twin core, replaced thermostat and water pump, new coolant and put a switch from the electric fan on the dash to make sure it is on when the temperature demands it. The only time mine overheats now is when I am grinding through soft sand at speeds below 40kph, ...

I am guessing the road is a bit like the Diamontina? or The Developmental Road to the Cape, would I be right ? Perhaps Finke River Road to the Finke Gorge?? I had BFG's on that trip, are they the same size as the Super Trippers?? BFG's cost a lot but you get a lot of peace of mind, I only have a 2" ...

Has anyone travelled the Gibb River Road in a Subaru??
I am planning a trip to Kunanurra and then to Broome. I wanted to know if I can do the Gibb River Road in my L series and what to expect.

TWC. For a trial blind I used a $1.50 clear plastic painter drop sheet from Bunnings. 1 x Elastic strap from side to side behind fron seats and made a channel for the ockey to thread through the sheet with some masking tape and folding over carefully. Next I got some double sided tape tabs and stuck...

Thanks twc, I guess that answers gardiners question. speedies and 185/75/14's with an OD of 633mm, on an unlifted L series. The 185/80/13's I am running 626mm OD, are a poor substitute for a 14 inch rim. I think she scrapes a bit more due to the belly on the bigger tyre squishing down on thumps in s...

Thanks subanator. I suppose if I can get a cheap set of 215/70/14's second hand we will all know when i test them out. I dont expect to pay more than $20 each second hand so I am not losing a lot. They would have good height and a wide footprint as well. I will let everyone know when I track some do...

Exchange Heads Where do we get them.EA 82
I have a second engine which I wanted to put together. Both the heads are cracked from an overheat in the soft sand, fried both. The short motor is ok but I want to get some decent recond or exchange heads. Any ideas where to get them and roughly how much should I pay for 2x EA82 heads and gaskets.e...

Sand tyres again
Finally the wife agrees to get a set of speedies. I am looking at some tyre configurations (second hand tyres to start with). I have picked out some sizes for the local wreckers and tyres suppliers to find for me second hand. I am hanging off the Super Trippers for a while, as I dont want to rush in...

Point taken, mine is in conjunction with thermostat and I found that when you turn off ignition and leave it on the fans in the air cond. also keep on !! This is a good reminder when getting out of the car that the switch is still on. I use this switch when grinding slowly through soft sand for prol...

PS.>Gardiner, I checked the tyre measure and 205/65/13's have an OD of only 597mm and thats not enough for any sub in the sand. Just ask me..lol.. The best 13" option I found were the Nankang Commercials 185/80(R)/13's with the OD of 626mm and balloon out well at 15psi. You can probably get these se...

Gardiner. I do not think 205/65's are the best option, they only give you an OD of 622mm. I have 185R13's on my L series and they have a OD of 626mm. You could do as well with 13 inch rims. I ran some 205/65/13's on the red sub in picture and barely made it to Happy Valley where the barman got a spa...

A picture is worth a thousand words...lol.. Now you have checked it on the battery, why not run a power lead to a switch on the dash, then back to the fan, and when you want it on, just flick the switch. Total cost $14 plus some solder. It can then be "on demand fan" instead of thermostat activated....

Unfortunately I just put a new waterpump, timing belts and radiator in recently, after a catastrophic day in the sand at woodgate. It overheated, cracked both heads, so I put in a second hand motor ($500) and everything I could think of including oil seals etc while it was on the bench. I could stil...

Re Gas
TWC . I just took it in and they re-gassed it ?? I do not know about which gas they used but some guys up here still have some old gas so I did not ask. The Air is working fine now and with the temp hitting 40 degrees celcius the other day I appreciated it all coming together at once. I have dropped...

FEEDBACK
Just thought I would add the result of the bypass switch for those still following this thread. Yes it still heats up on idle and below 40kph with air cond on. But the switch keeps the fan on when the air is turned off and the temp drops to normal at slow speed and idle, just turn air off ! So I wen...
