Add to that, a reliable mechanic in Melbourne if you know of any (preferably in Melbourne's northern suburbs) who can tend to it! I would fully recommend Combined Servicing in Clayton. They do LOTS of Subys. 33 Garden Rd Clayton North VIC 3168 - (03) 9546 9828 I was recommended to them by members o...

Where can you find blueprints of Subys online (so I can see boot space etc)?

thanks for the replies everyone... Just gotta wait awhile to scavenge together some cash before we begin looking properly really. I'm getting the vibe that a car with decent K's left in the engine (hopefully round the 200,000 mark, give or take 20,000), a couple of mod cons, and RWC/ bit of rego lef...

Well, I have to admit I've been checking out ads on Carsales, Trading post etc. and ausubaru of course. I've never had a/c before and I'm keen on power mirrors and windows... (and a rear hatch that doesn't close on my head) so dreaming about a new car is easing the blow. i was orginally going to go ...

Bump - I was looking @ this ad on Carsales for a 1992 Liberty GX which is selling for $2,200 and has done 320,000 Km's. Say I bought the car and the engine died at some point, does anyone know what it'd cost to replace (this type of engine)? Seems like a cheap Liberty! but i have only just started l...

Yep, luckily. I know, whyyy did he/she do it. I can only assume they were high or drunk, yet capable of hotwiring. truly lucky they didn't hit any pedestrians.

Nooo... my beautiful Suby... nicked and smashed

some stupid bastard stole it last night and smashed it into parked cars and it's written off. Was a great little runner, fantastic and didn't cause me any problems, I was looking forward to getting the heater repaired with my tax return... RIP little buddy. You were wasted and it's a damn shame. (Ed...

Hey guys! I found it - it's Sherbrook River camp, owned by Guides Victoria. Trying to figure out when I can book it. Thanks for your help :)

Where along the Great Ocean Rd are the Baker's Oven rocks?

Hi... I'm trying to track down a Scout/similar camp I stayed in on the GOR when I was young. I've been told it was located directly opposite this rock formation. Google Maps didn't help. Does anyone know? It's supposedly 10kms or so east of Port Campbell. If this thread gets no hits, I might post so...

Brunswick VIC... I'm really not too confident with doing the jobs myself though ey - If I had a mechanic mate I could call if I somehow soldered the dash clock to the passenger headrest (hey it could happen!) I probably would attempt it! I would like to do a short course in auto mechanics one day......

Regassing - Would I have to leave the car with them or does it just take 10 minutes? Any recommendations? My mechanic told me they didn't rate regassing very much... I wonder if I could get them to put new hoses for airflow in while they've got the dash in pieces... or check the seals or something. ...

What'll all this cost me?!

hey, Thinking of a few things to help my car out (89 L Series wagon)... could anyone help estimate how much I would expect to pay for it all? Also, how likely do you think my mechanic would be to let me pay it off in bits rather than all at once ... I've been using them for about 2 1/2 yrs now... an...

thanks for the glimmer of hope Busdriver, hehe. Not to sound bleak, but it's that damn time of year when money's mostly absent anyway! Well it's getting towed shortly... all I can do is wait now (and pray my the tax return estimate was well, well under what it will end up being, lol) Really apprecia...

I'll give you a very ballpark figure, applies to any four cylinder with a timing belt. More engines are "interference" rather than "free spinning" these days. When the belt covers come off, you can "rock" each cam with pistons at halfway, bent valves will show up as a cam that travels a long way be...

Take it from me a broken timing is not something you want to go through. At the very least you will end up with bent valves, a very expensive exercise.Just get it done! Can someone expand on this quote (if not Ineedabeer) - my car recently broke down, RACV guy thinks it might be the timing belt. We'...

Thank you for the tip on the gas struts, I probably never knew them by that name. I was told you couldn't regass them, maybe they just meant they couldn't regass them. Do you think my engine trouble could be related to the heater coil issue? Basically we had coolant leaking onto the floor of the fro...

'sall good, guess I will probably just get atow or something. While I've started an otherwise useless topic, maybe someone could help me out: What should I expect to pay for a new heater coil? I was quoted around $250 so am thinking of trying to source some secondhand ones. Also, those things which ...

Mobile mechanics in Melbourne?

Kez again... yes I always return with my endless queries about Suby mechanics. Thanks to you who pointed me to the Clayton mechanics, they never did me wrong. Until recently seized by a fit of laziness (well I live in Brunswick!) I decided to use Rhodes and Heron at the roundabout on St Georges Rd i...
