I still can't see the pics :( Lift kit is in, but that was a bloody hassle. Worst fears realised = car stuck on hoist. Had all sorts of components missing that we had to fabricate on the fly, very disappointing considering the Backyard Boys kit was supposed to have "everything you need". Also, disap...

I ran two of those red plastic ones on the roof racks going through outback Queensland and South Oz in March. They ballooned out quite substantially but never leaked. The key is to try and leave no air pocket when you fill them and then dump the fuel in the tank as soon as you have room. Still have ...

Sorry to hear about the hospital episode, never pleasant. Whould have been good to at least post something up on this site to make people, who are waiting on parts, aware of the situation. Instead I've been sitting here fuming over unknown circumsatnces, waiting to fit a lift kit as the steering ext...

RSR555 - I used 65x50 angle to mount the gas strut ball mounts on the beam and the 150mm of 50x5 plate for the parts that go over the securing pins. The verticals off the end of the swing arms that these were welded onto were 50x5 plate in 110mm lengths. The straps at the bottom of the beam were 40x...

Hey RSR - What I did was get a heap of stuff precut when I ordered the steel in order to avoid a heap of cuttin with a hand grinder, resulting in crooked cuts and the like. The 50x50 square box section for the swingarms and uprights were 450mmx2 (spare upright and 45degree brace) 150mmx2 (to hold th...

Venom - You are spot on with that observation and the jerry can holder lock down bar does indeed foul on the tail gate. I am going to have to give a tweak in the vice a little on one corner. That was one thing I screwed up a bit. We checked to see if the holder will clear but not with the water jerr...

Suparoo - More pics as requested, hope they are clear enough. ScubyRoo - That is correct. The main beam is separate to the tow bar and had to be manufactured from scratch. It's the main load bearing and structural component in this contraption. Have a good squiz at one of the shots below, in the mid...

L series 2" lift install
Hi :) Can anyone confirm for me that the steering shaft in a power steer 1993 L series does NOT require any welding or other components when fitting a 2inch lift kit to this vehicle? I have a AUSUBARU kit to go in, but do not want to end up with a lifted car that's stuck in the garage because I can'...

Hi all :) Yes I will be moving the number plate to the rear of the fuel can holder and if I get the inclination I might even put a couple of pad locks on where the R clips go through on the ends of the swingarms. The swingarm ends have 5mm plate with a hole into which the 20mm locating pins go throu...

Rear wheel / jerry can carrier
Hi all, just thought I'd share this with you. 4 nights in the shed, a lot of beer and a bit of cursing have all come to fruition. After trying to find a rear bumper spare wheel carrier for my 14 inch spare without any success I ended up building one from scratch. Using some bits off ebay, a couple o...

I work in a dealership in Melbourne and it sounds just like your work environment. Minor differences like crap commercial radio v's country, saddle friggers v's knuckle draggers, feral utes v's rubbish cars with more money spent on the stereo than anything of actual performance enhancement, which th...

I suppose I should put something in here. Bought a 1993 1.8lt wagon a couple of years ago after being hit by a semitrailer riding my bike. My love of touring, camping, bushwalking was undamaged however and when I learnt how to walk again I bought the little Suby and then drove around Tassie, then Me...
