I you are doing the head gaskets in the car its a good idea to undo the engine mount nuts and lift the engine to one side and put the head on and then lift it across to the other side to do the other head gasket . All you have to do is the engine mount nuts not the whole mount and just get underneat...

LS 90 gear oil ,75/ 85w gear oil or 80/90w gear oil is all OK to put in the trans mission and i suspect that most of your oil leak may be coming from the gear selector shaft seal as this is a common problem ,if you are going fix this problem its a good idea to replace the spring pin for the selector...

Have you had a look under the bonnet when its making the noise ? If you want to fix the problem remove the rocker cover and at the end of the rocker shaft there should be a small orofice this usually blockes up and the air cant bleed out of the shaft and goes through the lifters you can go through heaps of lifters if you dont unblock the hole the noise will keep ...

not sure about it being a viscous coupling as the viscous coupling are in the manual gearboxes there is a cluchpack the takes it place in the automatic gearboxes and there was quite a lot of them doing the same thing and was caused by the clutch plate fingers wearing groves in the housing and jammin...
