thanks guys ... yea RSR 555, it would be cool if you could bring in a whole car for parts but I think they have to be cut in half ? If you could bring in a whole car, you could find a damaged one and use the compliance off that. My brother lives in Tokyo at the moment. He says Subarus arent all that...

Does anyone know how much it would cost for compliance on a 98 - 02 Liberty Wagon on a Japanese import ? And where to get it done ?

thanks guys.
Ive never done timing belts on a subaru but did one on an 02 Lancer recently.
At least with the subaru it looks to have better access.

ea82 l series timing belts

My subie had 250 000 on it when I got it, only done another 5000 more now.
Im not sure about the condition of the timing belts.
Can you tell by looking at them ?
If a belt breaks, does it damage the engine ?

Actually, you might be right about the CV nut. It didnt feel loose but when I took the nut off to pull the drive shaft out, it came undone without any effort.

I checked the inner cv and that seems fine. Took it for a short drive and no noise sofar.

noise in the front of my L series.

Having replaced both outer cv joints and wheel bearings I thought I had got on top of the noises from the front of my 2004 L Series wagon. Now it has developed a noise that kind of sounds like the pad rubbing from a hot spot on the disc but I dont believe its the disc. It only makes the noise when u...

L series Air / Fuel Ratio

I finally got around to doing a fuel economy test on my L series. Turns out it used 42 Lt to do 358 k's , so that equates to nearly 12 Lt per 100k's Thats all city driving, but going easy on the pedal. Pretty poor economy from what I gather. Ive used the engine cleaning spray, replaced the air clean...

except ... now i can hear the CJ joints making a noise.
I replaced the outers not that long ago, and it makes a noise in a straight line so must be the inners ???

Are the inner CV Joints any more difficult to fit on the shaft than the outers ?

Front wheel bearings ?

I have had for a while a noise in the front of my L Series wagon, that I thought was just tyre noise. The tyres are a fairly open GT Radial winter tread. Kind of a humming, rumbling. but recently it seems to have gotten louder. Ive replaced the Outer CV Joints recently. But could the noise be wheel ...

My first subaru was a 85 RX Turbo. ( about 7 years ago ) Guy had it for sale on the side of the road for $4000 and I stopped and had a bit of a look. A few weeks later hed dropped it to $3000. Probably a month after that, I stopped and asked if it was still for sale. he said it was but wasnt going a...

lol ... nah, I go pretty easy on the gas, it doesnt make much difference if i put my foot down anyway. The ea82 is pretty sluggish. fuel/air ratio ... how do you check that ? I know there is probably a mixture screw on the carby, and generally if your mixture is right the exhaust pipe is a light grey.

The fuel economy with my 'L' is pretty bad. Lucky if I get 100k's on 20 bux around town. It does seem a bit better on a run.

I think I might start with a can of engine cleaner and maybe a carby rebuild.
