New Carby Problems!

Hey guys, I just put a reconditioned carby on an EA81. It's got a few issues. One is that when the engine is running it smells like kerosene, I don't know if this is an actual problem, but just checking anyway. The other big one is that (and this is when the engine IS warmed up and the choke IS off)...

It was a dry, sunny day, I cleaned the previous coat, which was Acrylic, with Septone Wax and Grease remover, then sprayed it with Killrust Primer then applied the topcoat. I did this on the third wheel too, although it only bubbled a little bit around the edges. Strange.

Haha, I painted my calipers red before using so called "Caliper and Drum Brake paint"
I hope it sticks.

DISASTER!

I was respraying the brumby wheels white this arfternoon, and it fried everything down to the primer from the last coat! $25 later....

I'm peeling the paint off like a sticker.
I'm REALLY pissed off.

So if I put a naturally aspirated EJ20 in, it would just fit in without crossmember mods, etc and an EJ gearbox would just bolt straight in? And it would still get traction? lol

Why couldn't Subaru have used a REAL stud pattern on the MY series. :x

Hey wildhorse, did you use XT6 hubs/custom drilled hubs/EJ driveline for those rims?

I'm leaving the Brumby at FWD, so it presumably wouldn't affect the rear axles. So, you reckon I could fit an EJ20G in front of an L series box and it wouldn't require any other major modification? Would this make it unroadworthy/too powerful for me to handle?

Brumby Engine Conversion

Could my Brumby handle an EJ20? According to the engine specs thread, an EJ20 puts out 85kW @5600 and 170Nm @4400 (is this @ the flywheel?) and that seems to be not much more than an EA81- Could I put the EJ20 in without replacing diffs/gearbox/axle shaft assembleys, etc?

I had a look at superlites, but they're a bit chunky compared to what I'm looking for. Ideally they would be like this:

Yeah. I emailed SunSpares to see if they had any XT6 hubs for some 17" rims, failing that I'm considering getting some rims drilled to 4x140 and 4x100, to make it viable.

89 Brumby- Done.

Finally, it's finished. Got some floor carpet on the way, just to make it a bit more comfy, and the brakes need bleeding, but other than that, It's finished :D http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c206/theaffinity/rex.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c206/theaffinity/red.jpg http://i28.photobucket...

The choke, while running the engine, really makes it roar. Like, about 4000 in 1st (I'm not sure, no tacho)

(Oops, meant an EJ81)
Procedure-
Nuetral
Turn ignition to "On"
Choke out full
Push accellerator in about 1/2 way
Turn to "Start"

EJ18 won't start in the cold :(

My Brumby is really giving me the shits.. It's a factory EJ, and using the choke, pumping the accellerator and every other trick in the book just won't start it in under five minutes.

Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem before I pull ALL my hair out?

He would be correct.
Mine had a targa roof, but it broke pretty badly in a locked-the-keys-in accident. We took the roof from a similar age Leone sedan and welded it in. Perfect, you can't even notice it.

We couldn't find any parts to fix the original in my neck of the woods (Toowoomba/QLD)
