Which is best?

Ah, yes, the old nagging missus............ I also remember those days. That was my first wife. I'm on my third wife currently (and very happy). My second wife decided to pass-away so I had no say in that. My first is still a vivid nightmare on full moon nights.......pity I didn't have a one seat ut...

Carby and Headers

I was going to get a weber on my Brumby but decided to try getting the old carby refurbished. Really top job for about $250.00. "Carburetor and Electrical" in Fremantle. Been there for years. Post it down and pay by card and they'll post it back. It came back like a new one. I also got the Dizzy ref...

What ever you use, be sure to use the same each time after. Maybe go for an engine flush then start with some new oil. I use Penrite 20/40??? and have done for several years. I also put in an additive of Wynns Charge or Supreme for oil. Any brand name additive will do but I have used this stuff in a...

My Brumby did much the same thing. Died when accelerating. Rebuilt the carby and Dizzy. They found a cracked diaphram in dizzy which is the vacuum advance.

I changed both fuel filters as well.

All good now. Don't know if that helps.

Thanks guys for the info. I took out the glove box, console, but cannot get the front panel off the heater/fan dials. I can feel underneath and but cannot see any cables or valves. The heater dial turns onto full heat but when you turn the dial to off, it doesn't shut the valve off completely allowi...

Brumby Heater

I have a 89 Brumby and found the heater dial doesn't shut off the valve. I've still got warm air coming through the car even with the heater dial reading off. Do I need to take out the dash or is there another way I can get at the problem?

Radiator leak

I had the same on my 89 Brumby a couple of months back.

I got the local Natrad agent to repair. $380.00. Been real hot here in Perth lately and runs a little cooler since the clean and re-solder tanks.

Setting timing

I have a 1989 Subaru Brumby EA81 electronic dizzy. Took out distributor and did not mark rotor position (silly me). I have set flywheel to top dead centre and located dizzy rotor on number 1 plug lead. Won't start. I remove dizzy cap and check flywheel to TDC and notice the rotor is now 180 degrees ...

15" rims

My wheels are through a tyre guy in Mandurah but can get them from any tyre place. They are "Speedy Wheels" & made special in S.A. I believe. Took me about 3 months to get them because of the 140mm stud pattern. Wasn't in a hurry as I had the ute stripped down anyway. Cost was a bit much, around 120...

I ended up getting Speedy wheels. 15inch fitted with 185's. Don't do any off road stuff but they come in 5.5, 6 or 7inch series.

Distributor Problem?

I have a 89 Brumby EA81 and I think the vacuum advance on the dizzy doesn't work. Any suggestions on how to check it and also where can I get a new dizzy or a vaccuum advance diaphram, (if it has one).

My brother met some gut from the USA who was service manager or something for Subaru. He noticed my brothers Suby with lifter noise. He said they need the gaps checked but the main cause is the oil pump, not enough oil getting there. They will run for years like this without changeing the pump. He c...

Years ago I used a Wynns product called Engine Tune up. Pour half a can into carby slowly whist at about 2000RPM and that caused smoke to billow out of the exhaust. Then the remainder half can in fuel tank. Works OK as well. I just had the Brumby done at the local Subby dealer with good results usin...

Might pay the get the alternator checked out. There should be a sender unit of some sort and the name escapes me now which charges the battery. I think it's a relay. Not real good on electrics though. Someone on this site will definately know the answer.

Clicking Sound

I have a 89 Brumby and noticed the last few days as I take the foot off the accelerator a clicking sound from the front end happens. When I depress the clutch it stops. Only notice it when going slow in say second or third. Anyfaster and can't hear a thing but exhaust note. Also some weeks ago a guy...
