So the longer one is from an Outback? I'm quite sure it's from an Outback. Ben's rear blocks look like they have the crush tube in them No crush tubes yet, but they are made of 4mm RHS, so quite strong. i love the fact that you have lifted you liberty! but an rx? this makes me wanna cry! a standard...

Thanks for the tips, I'll weld the trailing arm spacers together and add the crush tubes.

Yeah, the top control arm bush is the stock liberty one.

I actually got the steering knuckle from a friend, but to remove the old one and install the new one, I actually ended up dropping the entire engine.

Lifted Liberty Sedan

I finally finished putting all the Outback bits in my 1997 Liberty RX. Most of the bits were scavenged from wreckers; a few are improvised. These images could be helpful to anyone else wanting to do the same thing. Rear Diff carrier spacer http://ausubaru.com.au/picture.php?albumid=237&pictureid=192...

Timing belt, tensioner, idlers, cam seals and crank seal.

Was going to do the water pump, but I learned that a N/A 2.5 RX Liberty needs a turbo water pump; does anyone want a new Aisin N/A water pump (WPF-002)?

One of the cam seals actually fell out, no wonder oil has been dripping onto my exhaust!

I'm going to do a full timing belt replacement with seals, idlers and waterpump to fix the leak.

But the rattle could actually be just a simple exhaust heat shield that is loose.

It seems that the noise is coming from the front right of the engine.

I took that side of the timing belt cover off to find quite a bit of oil which also seems to be dripping onto the exhaust causing the smell.

Could a leaking cam seal be related to the sound?

Yet another noise

Hi, I've got a 1997 2.5 liberty that I recently put a dual range gearbox out of a 2000 forester into, along with a new clutch (clutch pro). It has a single mass flywheel that I got machined. I also replaced the rear main seal and the inspection plate. All of a sudden I got this grinding noise when a...

I finally got to a wreckers, $30 got me the cable and lever but he didn't have the right bit of plastic so I've cut it until I can find one. Pictures if anyone cares. I cut a hole in the rubber boot thing. http://ausubaru.com.au/picture.php?albumid=192&pictureid=1498 I think this is how the cable is...

I had the same problem with my Gen 2 Liberty RX.

Replacing the O2 sensor fixed it for a year or so but it came back and cleaning the MAF with some special purpose aerosol seems to have fixed it properly.

I'm thinking it's just the computer spazing when it gets confused.

It's a liberty, that's good news cheers.

One more thing, there is a spare plug comming out of the loom next to the neutral and reverse switch plugs, is this for the low range switch?
It does not make any lights come on in the dash when I short it, maybe I also need a new cluster...

Dual range sedan lever

Hi all, I've put a dual range gearbox into a 1997 RX sedan from a 2.0 2000 forester. It's all working great, however I'm sick of popping the bonnet to get low range. Does anyone know if I can get the entire console and lever out of a 2nd gen dual range outback and it will just bolt in, or if there a...

Thanks for the heads up, maybe it would be better if I found a single turbo out of a WRX or something?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I would like to use the bonnet as it has a scoop on it for the top mounted intercooler.

EJ20TT into Gen2 RX

Hi, I think this is my first post here. I've had my RX for almost a year now, and am slowly becoming more competent with its workings, I've "rebuilt" the gearbox after having it explode (quite literally) a few weeks after I bought the car, I replaced all bushes with nolathane ones, and recently I re...
