thanks a bunch dfoyl. That's exactly what i'm looking for. They have a 2008/2009 hitch that seems to match the factory subaru hitch as far as ratings go at least.
They do ship outside of australia, but it looks like you have to email them.

no unfortunately they do not here in the states. Our manual says our cars aren't supposed to be able to tow anything at all. The dealer doesn't offer the tow kit for any impreza or Legacy. Hey, I live in the U.S. and subaru doesn't offer a tow kit for the impreza here in the states. Almost no cars do, only SUV's.
