DONE! I managed to find a thick piece of metal off a steel shelf. I'm not sure if the station wagons are different from the sedan, but I chocked the rear window open a little with a flat head screwdriver, then the metal stick will go straight onto the lock. I had a few people walk past me in the car...

Thanks for the tips guys. I tried a million keys... it's surprising how tight the locks on the car seem to be. Damn things are like new! I can see this window thing might work, the bit of metal I had was just to flimsy to push the lock. It's harder than you might think to find a metal bar in an offi...

Locked keys in 92 L-Series
Got distracted, jumped out of my car and locked the door before I remembered the keys were in the ignition. What a genius, I was just brilliant! Rather than taking a 4 hour round trip on public transport to get a spare key, I'm wondering if anyone can give me any tips on breaking into my car that do...

Wow, they are some scary photos. You'll probably all have a laugh at this, but maybe someone will save a bit of time and money and maybe not look as big an idiot as me. They replaced the A/C drive belt and fan belt, and what do you know, the metallic ticking no longer happens on cold start. I swear ...

The only thing I know about Subarus is that they are great cars... which is why I bought my current L Series 10 years after my first 1980 model ! I also learnt that if you don't do something about ticking sounds in your A/C compressor, bolts tend to shear off... if you are lucky. I've booked it in w...

A/C compressor - EA82 - L Series
Hi All, This question is going to be a bit dumb, but there's no point pretending I know what I'm talking about. I'm pretty sure the bearing in my A/C compressor is on the way out on my 92 L Series, as it makes a bad ticking sound when the car is warming up (aside from the ticking that I get from the...

Rear drum brake - 92 L Series
Just wondered if anyone else has had a rear brake shoe "pop out". I had a complete brake failure yesterday after the right rear shoe apparently came loose, causing the brake cylinder to expand until the seal popped off. From the other threads, I see that some people have had the retaining clip come ...

Spot on guys, there was a crack in one of the vacuum hoses in the engine bay. That has been replaced, and I'm now getting about a 50/50 flow through the dash and feet vents when the face option is selected. There must be another dodgy hose behind the dash that I'll look for when I do the stereo, but...

A/C & ventilation system issues
I have an issue with my 92 L-Series where the air vent automatically selects the "feet" setting when the A/C is switched on. No amount of pressing all of the ventilation control buttons will change anything. When I am just using the fan without the A/C, I can select all vents normally, though I don'...

Took the car to the mechanic who "adjusted" the selector and everything is working normally now. For some reason it wasn't reaching the full throw. Fortunately no parts were required. Now I can confirm the actual range of movement for the selector: 4WD LO -> NEUTRAL -> 4WD HI -> FWD So it's a bit of...

Firstly, thanks for all the feedback, I'm starting to think I made an honest mistake when I didn't check this out before I bought the car.... although I still love the car. Back to the selector. Yeah, whatever stickers were there, have long since worn off. I took it on to gravel today and tried flic...

When you say "my 92 will only do HI and LO", do you mean you can't get the lever down and the dashboard 4wd light to turn off? Dane. Yes, I can select low range, neutral, and high range. I'm pretty sure the lever is traversing the full extent each way. The lights on the dash stay constantly on 4WD,...

L Series FWD option?
You'll have to pardon my ignorance here. I've just bought a 92 L-Series and I was curious to know if there's many out there that have a front-wheel-drive option. My original 1980 model could switch between FWD & 4WD, but my 92 will only do HI and LO. I'm finding the constant 4WD is not so good when ...
