Re: Red Targa Brumby
Rad is up to scratch, I’m just worried it’ll be the next weakest link to let go. It doesn’t run hot, if anything a bit on the cool side, even with a piece of cardboard blocking almost half the radiator! This helps warm the engine up quicker. Today it did a bit of a pub crawl across the district - be...

Re: EA81 Coolant leaks
I was thinking about this today and it would be worth investigating for a blown head gasket with an exhaust gas detector thing that hangs in the radiator. Presence of exhaust gas = blown head gasket which would pressurise the cooling system. This still my not be the case but worth checking. Also for...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Geez Sam, you’re bloody lucky that didn’t happen on the open road at cruise speed!!
Those new units look beefy. Good call on mimicking the angle on the end, I think that will work out well in the long run.
Cheers

Re: EA81 Coolant leaks
Welcome to the forum Stingrae! I edited the pics in your second post - just needed to copy the image itself rather than the web address. The address/directory for each image is now a jpeg code and this did the trick. Firstly, don’t touch the heads if you don’t have to - EA81s will leak coolant inter...

Re: Red Targa Brumby
Water pump replaced on the morning of Mother’s Day so I could take the brumby for a drive to my folk’s place then a trip home the long way via my sister’s place. That was a bit more than 300km in total. I didn’t trust the threads on the block that hold the water pump in, I used a torque wrench for t...

Re: Scan tool 1997 Liberty EJ22e
Ah bugger Mark! The good news is that your ECU is not locked to an immobiliser module and matching transponder unit in the keys. So swapping out ECUs is a no fuss affair on that front. As for finding one you’ll have better luck at a Pick-a-part (Kilsyth is your closest one) or Jolly’s U pullit. Pick...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
10 years since it was painted?!! That’s nuts! Where did that time go?? Hopefully it’ll be an easy fix and they can match the paint, particularly the metallic fleck in the paint. I reckon you’ll love the efi world; more power, better economy and the possibility of running your AC on a hot day with a ...

Re: Red Targa Brumby
Well today we headed out to collect some wood. Mrs El_Freddo doesn’t like trailers in general and since her family bus was towing one we swapped vehicles to get into where the wood was. As a result I managed to snap this photo of Redback brumby in its natural environment. There’s something about a v...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
A front LSD will sort out that torque steer - and an L series AWD locking box would help with general traction. So, after all that effort are you actually happy with it at this stage? Do you think the EJ conversion is worth the effort (although yours is quite different to many conversions out there ...

Re: Scan tool 1997 Liberty EJ22e
Other things to consider Mark is an issue with the ECU or the possibility of a wiring issue that’s intermittent - maybe a bump in the road or a certain vibration causes loss of connection in one or many sensors/power/earth circuits. All body earth straps fitted? You should have one from the battery ...

Re: Driver Assistance less than functional.
Hey Neal and Sue, What you’re experiencing is the reason why I don’t do new cars. Our youngest vehicle is a 2005 build! It only makes a noise when we leave the headlights on and open the driver’s door. I hate chimes when driving!! I hope the commodore does you well. If you look after them they’ll go...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Wow that’s nuts that one little parameter like that can screw up so much in the operation of the engine! I’m guessing all that new wiring, while nice and good to know it’s fresh (plus that personal satisfaction), was not necessary in the grand scheme of things. Awesome to hear that it’s running good...

Re: Driver Assistance less than functional.
I too can’t really help other than with two things. 1) keep pushing Subaru for a genuine response. They should be greatly concerned about their system not working properly. 2) Have you had your windscreen replaced recently? If so, was it one that’s made for the eyesight system? I mention this as I’v...

Re: Scan tool 1997 Liberty EJ22e
Agreed, an intermittent issue like this is a painful one to get sorted and may have killed many a good car in its time. Other than the crank angle sensor, I think that list of parts being replaced is sensible. The crank angle sensor is just a magnet with a copper coil around it. If the wire to the c...

Hey Sam that does sound like progress! Have you got that TPS pinned out correctly - as in are you sure all the wires do exactly what you think they’re doing? Second TPS/brand new from memory, should be working fine. Hopefully an easy fix then off to the tuners again for the last time! Cheers Bennie

Re: Brumby running rough, shuddering and bunny hopping
Hmmm… I’ve not heard of this being an issue before. I’d be checking the bowl vent line and the fuel cut solenoid to ensure everything is breathing and being fed properly.
Glad you’ve got it sorted though!

Nothing serious, these trips were just bedding and couches etc. A few years ago when moving houses I used to load her right up and she managed ok. But since then I’ve also put in some front coilovers and this is probably partly why she doesn’t feel good with big loads as the rear is doing all the wo...
