I've had two alternators die in 15 years. Both times I noticed when putting the headlights on dropped the voltage enough to kill the ignition.

No warning lights appeared in my 'L'.

You make good points, and have me leaning toward that train of thought...

It does raise the question though - who had need of such a photo shopped image? That story itself would be worth hearing. :)

If it is a photo shop job, it is a good one! I figured it wasnt exactly a new photo, that why I thought there was a chance someone remembered the story behind it.

Random photo from the internet...

Anyone know anything about this photo? It was in one of those "19 most awesome car crashed which will totally shock you!!!11!!" click bait lists. A reverse image search just brings up a million more such lists... http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xpf1/t51.2885-15/10311085_685549901480621_11...

I've towed a box trailer of wood pushing the 1000kg mark with an L series. It was really starting to push the car around, and certainly not something I'd recommend at speed/distance/extra 500kg. Also, I started to become concerned at just how the tow bar is bolted to my L. Not sure how solid it is o...

I'm sure I've read a thread on here from someone who put an ej awd box behind an ea in their road going car... Can't find it though.

Well, I'd been trying to work out how to do it that way to use with fog lights, thought I'd give it a go.

If I ever actually put fog lights on I can use that circuit for them and make another one with just highbeam on for the driving lights. ;-)

So, after 14 years of owning an l series (and about 3 years after picking up a pair of second hand hella 140s), I've finally got the driving lights which I said I'd get when I bought the car. Two switch options, on with highbeam, and on with ignition. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5557/14991300850_...

Find some backpackers to drive it over for you - save time off work, air fare and the risk of unhappy cops...

I should have known it would be there, I only looked back one page before posting.

Love it Shane, it's a monster, but even if I had any money I would never get approval from the minister for war and finance.

Thanks guys, hopefully I won't need a fusible link anytime soon. On the subject of the alternator... I put the multimeter on the positive terminal on the alternator itself, and it read ~+14v. For a second I thought I had identified the problem, but then I checked the battery again, and found it was ...
