If they do have glowplugs, they would be off within the first minute after a cold start. Not these days anymore - emissions control etc. Plugs stay on till half warmed up or so, engine management tells. Via SSM2 or extended OBD-II data logging one can watch that glow relay switch. Glow light on das...

...NRMA attended and applied a diagnostic tool which reported the following fault message " Code 1468, Unknown manufacturer DTC"... I always appreciate real data... Diagnostic trouble code P1468 is Oil dilution , which is manufacturer specific. Might cause limp-home mode, don't know for sure. Known...

The second last visit they actually erased the ECU and started again. Sounds like a plain normal reflash. You've probably got new ECU software as Subaru software reads ROMID from ECU first and refuses to flash same or lower version. SH7058/7058S/7059 microcontroller ROM flash memory (embedded insid...

To be fair, mechanics cannot adjust ECU software itself at all, not their business. They only reflash a fixed newer version. Subaru reflash software even refuses putting up any older or same version than what's on the car - can't go back if you don't like it. The change in driving characteristics is...

Does the DPF burn off process continue when the gears are swapped back to get higher revs? Sounds like the driver needs a warning that DPF burn off is about to occur in one minute so no go do any overtaking, or be programmed not to conduct a burn off unless revs are at constant 3,000 rpm and driver...

Open source data logging on Euro5 is not supported due to lack of tech savvy people investigating. Euro5 might require CAN while Euro4 is working fine over both (cheap) serial and CAN connection. I, too, would be very disappointed receiving ignorance style treatment from dealerships. Good ones are t...

Do you think that Euro5 has a sensor for oil dilution, as how else would the sensor stop flashing after 1 day? Unfortunately, oil dilution sensor is rather unlikely, no signs at all. Technology and patents do exist though. AFAIK (low) oil level (warning) switch plus VGT (turbo vanes) position senso...

Everything I know applies to Euro4 models, Euro5 might have changes, some hardware parts are definitely different... The car has tried to run 18 regens. The regen counter is only being incremented after full completion. Partial regens won't be remembered/considered. Because of this, actual active re...

Data sampling is real-time. To check rather static parameters like regen counter, oil dilution, soot etc. you can retrieve those with engine off. Ignition on is a must of course - control unit must be powered. There's at least one iPhone OBDII app: Rev http://devtoaster.com/products/rev/index.html U...

It would also be interesting to know if the Subaru ECU actually measures the oil dilution or only estimates it based on the number of regens done. It cannot. Generally the car does not have super special sensors that could measure oil dilution, fuel quality, fuel energy etc. AFAIK newest models hav...

So according to the foreman at subaru......when the DPF light comes on, but does not flash, it means you need to drive around and regen it. Yes, that's what the manual says, too. When the DPF light comes on flashing straight away it is an oil dilution problem. Confirmed, that one we know very well ...

Hi there! I know several people constantly driving soft and low rpms without any problems in Europe. None of them has ever seen DPF light (except for ignition-on test). Personally I do lots of short trips, too. So cannot agree to generic argument about diesels are meant for medium/long trips only......
