Re: New Impreza AWD Owner from Melb - deceleration "whining" noise, thoughts appreciated

Just an idea: Since the noise occurs under deceleration, could it be a vacuum leak or similar (I know you said it sounds mechanical)? Or does it sound different? It's possible there is e.g. an EGR leak (if the car has one still, most modern vehicles don't need it anymore) or some other 'whistle' cau...

Re: WRX EJ20 Turbo into L-Series Wagon

Awesome stuff. Great diagnosis and problem solving.

One thing I could suggest- is it possible to take a signal from e.g. the crank angle sensor to that fuel relay you just removed? I suspect it's there to save you in a crash as it will stop the fuel pumping when the engine stops.

Re: Spam/other alerts

A 'spider' in this case is literally a web crawler from a search engine designed to catalogue/index everything. Baidu is the biggest Chinese search engine. This should be able to be blocked in the robots.txt file (from my memory). It's possible the baidu one has not been listed. You'll need to talk ...

Re: Revs and revs till stalls, what could it be?

I'll just guess but check the throttle closing spring. If it's missing/weak/stretched, then once the car is running the vacuum could pull the throttle open, redlining it. The stall may be another problem, e.g. poor fuel pump supply or carby float/ float bowl / blocked fast jet issue resulting in fue...

Re: Advice needed

On the SH forester pulling the ABS fuse (i.e. blowing the glow plug (combined with ABS) fuse on a diesel- go figure that wiring intelligence) disables basically all the ABS, TCS, VDC, etc. systems. This is because (in my opinion) they are all dependent on the ABS wheel sensors to detect wheel speeds...

Re: Trip Report (49 pics) - Pack a Lunch - Sept/Oct Border Tk SA run

Thanks Bennie, your post and the video may just inspire me to do some such thing in the future. We're looking to upgrade our diesel forester now (10 yrs/ 200+k km) so if the trade-in's not worth it maybe I'll use it as a AWD 'beater' for some fun. Otherwise I'd like a new Suzuki Jimny to go 'play'! ...

Re: OBD2 Connection Problems 1999 Subaru Forester Limited

Hi OzTas75, OBD-II (and OBD preceding it) originated in the USA. 1) "since 1996" means in the USA because that's when OBD-II was mandated in the USA 2) Oz's version, basically compatible with it, was mandated from 2006 for petrol and from 2007 for diesel passenger vehicles. So your 1999 almost certa...

Re: Forester utility

There was the SH Forester Ski patrol / mountain rescue concept in 2008/2009. See e.g.

Motor1 article

Google image search for "forester SH mountain rescue concept"

That's all I can think of and it wasn't in Oz.

I'd just like to point out 11.75 years is an awful long time to wait for a reply (and one of, if not the, longest I've seen on a forum anywhere)!
