Sent that pic to "Matt" my dyno operator and he said "looks nasty,,, must have had water in the fuel a long time ago"
Sounds logical.

Fuel filters beware
This week, while my engine was dynoed the operator "Matt" had changed jets and cleaned the bowl out of the carbie. Then running the engine - on the graph there was a sudden drop of power. Checked the bowl for what appeared a fuel blockage and there was a fine powder at the bottom of the bowl. So we ...

I had the trike in for its final dyno tune yesterday. We had to order jets for the 38/38 carbie. So Matt placed the new main jets in (150) and we found an immediate rise of torque by 6% which was massive. Then the problems began. There was crap in the carbie bowl regardless that it had been wiped cl...

Yeh, been too long Bennie. When its fully tuned we'll organise something. I'd really like to know the hp and ft/lbs at the wheel of a ea81 auto say Leone. The Subie auto is a 3 speed and wouldnt be much different to the VW one for drag. That workshop is the cleanest most organised workplace I've eve...

Thanks Doug but what is the stock ea81 hp at the wheels say Leone automatic? And stock torque ft/lbs at the wheels Leone automatic? Would love to know. What I do know is acceleration is on the par with the supercharged engine with less tendency to raise the front wheel off the ground. (which is a go...

Last week I took Tweety for a dyno. Engine was lean at idle, lean at cruise and really rich on acceleration. Mains went from 125 to 143. it ironed out a lot of the up and down lines on the graph but still Matt wasnt happy. So he ordered 145 and 150 Main jets and he reckons 147 will be "IT". Anyway t...

Changes made for more power were timing up from 6 deg BTDC to 12 deg Pltinum plug gap up from 32 thou to 38 thou . not willing to gamble any further. Exhaust is black and rich at cruise but not too bad. When revving the engine black smoke is much worse and misses at medium to high revs. Be good to g...

Good question jonno so I had to attend he garage to remind me. I've got that 50amp chrome alternator remounted closer to the carbie. Add to that the 38/38 throttle lever gets too close to the dizzy top. Even with the relative large adapter one of the throats needed to be machined in the adapter to a...

yeh Scott, about 3000 kms I suppose. The engine runs better since I increased the plug gaps from 32 thou to 38 thou (platinum) and advanced the timing to 12 degrees. So the symptom of running rich is still there but less so. I have a stripped thread in one bolt for the steel brake line going to the ...

Re: "But *I am having trouble containing myself as there's things "I just want done now" on it, but I guess we're all like that to a degree!" You and I are in a similar position. Budgeting necessity means a time factor. Pacing ourselves when bills keep rolling in and of course you have the little mi...

Well Gazza if you are happy shopping out of Oz then so be it. Remember that cars in USA have always been cheaper by a considerable margin. My neighbour has been shopping for Desoto parts for his 1939 sedan. Has been using USA distributers even though he can get them here. Lately his parcel hasnt had...

I wouldnt on principle shop with Rockauto. They listed a ea82 SPFI MAF correct part number etc and a cool $350 thereabouts. So bought it. Received the part and left it until I was to install it which was just over the 30 day warranty. Then realised the MAF was about 10mm larger in diameter- other wi...

Nice pics. Pacing yourself with expenditure has only come about with me in the last 5 years...and I'm 59yo. Up till then its been "gotta do it now " with sacrifices immediately. Some expert I read once said its a sexual thing with young men. I dont doubt it. Cars, trikes etc could have satisfied me ...

When towing I was getting 24-27mpg the camper weighing 300kgms total. The trike weighing 660 kgms plus me, Deb, Rosie and top box luggage so say 900 plus 300 = 1200 kgms....same as brumby with 2 passengers with a 3 speed auto. So really good economy. I once got 34mpg with ea81 and 32/36 weber 3 year...

Today I did an economy test. First chance riding the trike without towing the camper. Melbourne and return. Total 446 kms fuel = 42.6 litres. = 9.55 L/100 kms or 30 mpg I'm stoked about this. Speed was 105-110 kph constant to Berwick other side of Melbourne. Used 95 RON. Have been using 98 but 95 ru...
