Was that photo taken without you moving the engine? If it was it does look like the belt has skipped. You may have bent valves, re align it all and do a compression test. Align the two notches on each cam wheel. I would ignore the paint marker marks, they seem a bit random. http://www.stu.co.nz/lega...

Are they the hose clamps I circled?

Stainless steel hose clamp if your feeling fancy or some wire if you are feeling cheap. Other option is to get rid of the heat shields but this may reduce the life of rubber boots in the area (or on friday the 13th start a grass fire if you park in long grass)

Probably exhaust heat shields, get under there and give them a rattle. The banana shaped ones out of the headers are commonly loose.

To answer your points 1) I wasn't arguing it was better to run your car without a thermostat, I was arguing that it will not make it overheat / run hotter. You are dead right, the thermostat is there for a reason, the engine isn't designed to run cold. You don't want the engine running cold but this...

Ok. As you know previously I was not getting any error codes but car still refused to run for anything longer than 3 to 4 sec. So went with the following, as suggested. removed the wiring harness conected to the MAF sensor, sits inboard of airbox, and guess what - car starts and runs. Turn car off ...

I have a few of those temperature controllers I use for home brew, they are the 240V version but they work really well. I have set mine up in a jiffy box but probably not so important for 12V :)

Start with the two tests we have suggested, fuel and afm and see how that goes.

That means your ECU has no error codes. Can you give us some background on how this problem occurred, was it a sudden thing? Have you just bought the car? Does it make any difference if you give it some throttle etc. The first thing I would be checking from those symptoms is that your fuel pump / sy...

Any error codes?

No it won't. If the coolant/water/liquid is moving too quickly through the radiator it's not being cooled effectively in hot weather. Cooler times it'll be fine but get that 45 degree day and you'll have all sorts of issues without a thermostat. Different story if you've got a gutted thermostat so ...

Re no thermostat. Cooler is not always better. If the rad needs attention. Running with no thermo could help temps but its not addressing the problem. However the worst part of no thermo is that the water doesn't stay in the rad very long. So say its 40 deg and ur on the highway. Pull off onto back...

I am not familiar with the model but best bet would be to see if you can get any error codes out of the TCU. This will either require a scanner or a specific procedure and a bit of morse code inspired interpretation. I don't have much experience with the subaru autos but no doubt someone on here can...

It was a work out but nothing too crazy, I have a pretty good track pump. Was about 2 minutes per tyre from 15 - 36 psi with a bit of a break between each one.

Just back from a 5 day trip down to Esperance and surrounds. New car went well, a bit of a rattle from the P/S header heat shield which I will need to sort out but handled the sand like a dream. Got stuck once before letting the tyres down on the way out to skippy point, once the tyres were down she...

Bought a 2000 foz. Alex's Outback would have been a nicer car but was after a manual and the economy of the 2L is a bonus.

Lift wise, thinking of either 2" strut lift or 1" each of struts and springs. Any input?
