So, I spoke to the Subaru parts guy today, and he said he'd been in contact with head office and, it would appear, this isn't the first complaint they've had about these bars . Anyhow, I asked if I could return them for a refund and he said yes, no problems, as they didn't want an unhappy ...

Agreed. They look pretty neat. Which version did you get? In the meantime, I've sent off an email to Thule Sweden (cc to Thule Aust) voicing my concerns about what I consider to be poor design and fit, amongst other things. (For instance, they specify a tightening torque of 4 Nm, but they use a non-...

Hylton:evil::twisted:
That is exactly what I told the Subaru parts chap. I just couldn't believe that Subaru would consider something like this acceptable!

I don't think they will come adrift too easily, as the outer clamp (which is a "universal" clamp, again not designed specifically for the car), is a reasonably close fit and extends under the bottom of the rail. What I don't like is that the clamping force on the inner rail is only along the top inn...

Regarding the roof bars, Subaru are still trying to find the right guy to talk to, but in the meantime I contacted Thule Aust. about my concerns. They said yes, that is the right kit and that's how it fits. They said it's perfectly safe (!) the way it clamps up, and apparently the fact that it looks...

Yep, compared to the Forrie there ain't much there! Still, it's big enough for my wife to put in the shopping, but it's going to be hard to get much firewood in there .

Couple of other things I thought about. DiscoP would absolutely hate it! The electronics inside are a technological junkies dream ! Suits me, though, I have lots of settings to play with! Amongst other things you can set reminders for the next service (based on time and/or distance) - oil, filt...

Picked it up a couple of days ago, but haven't had much of a chance to drive it (daughter and two kiddies now staying with us, so things are somewhat chaotic!). Anyhow, the drive home was going to be the telling point. I live up in the hills, out of Adelaide. The freeway from the city up is 10 kms -...

Well, it seems I'll be getting my new car next week (instead of waiting for one to come from Japan next month or so). 'Twould appear that the dealer had two allocated for a fleet buyer, who then said they only wanted one! The salesman asked me if I would like it (Ice Silver "S" model, which happens ...

d generate, if she's already saying things like underpowered, then you may have a problem! If she's after performance, then she's looking at the wrong market segment. If she wants some class, with a high safety factor and that "look at me" thing, then get the orange XVS!! She's comparing apples with...

At the risk of further boring you guys, I just remembered that I didn't mention the obligatory hard-sell to try and get me to sign up for the paint protection/interior protection/window tint!. After paying the deposit, I was introduced to a "customer service" person. I knew what was coming...

Revmax, seeing your info just reminded me - as I said, the young salesman came from a large country town, and he mentioned how much Brumby's are in demand by landowners. Seems that, even considering their age, they tend to fetch relatively high prices!

Good one, Sven! I love it! And no, he wasn't a big guy but must have gone to the same "how to sell" school :p. 'at that price I make nothing, and will not reach my sales quota, which means I cannot pay for my daughter's 21st...' Does he think anyone would really fall for that line? Good grief! And y...

Yep, Bob is the sort of guy who gives car salesmen such a bad rep. He said he expected me to come back and "negotiate" a bit more, as that's how these things are done . I guess he didn't think I was serious about the way I was doing it. I forgot to mention that apparently the dealer margin...

My experiences with buying an XV

(subtitled "The joys of dealing with car salesmen). So, I signed for an XV - one with the lot (S, auto etc). Expected delivery end of June/early July, in other words it hasn't been built yet! Here in Adelaide we have one dealer in the CBD, one in the suburbs (where I bought my Forester) and three, I...

GOD, putting on "hard kms" seems to be what modern diesels need, judging by the experiences I've been reading about. Where they seem to be problematic is when used in a typical urban driving environment. Change of topic - why is dealing with car salesmen such a pain? With virtually anything else I b...

All valid points, disco.I've always said it's a mistake to buy something when it first comes out, better to let others sort out the bugs! Unfortunately, I'm in a difficult situation. My wife has decided we're getting a new car (long story, but we need to keep the Forester for a while so my daughter ...

This has turned into a most interesting thread (as these things sometimes do) :). All these extra "safety" features have to cater for the lowest common denominator, which is a driver who may end up in a nasty situation and not have the experience to know what to do to get out of it - which is probab...

No arguments from me with what your saying. Unfortunately, if you want a new car then it's virtually impossible to get anything less than Euro-5 emission standards!! Which is one reason I won't touch a new diesel. A friend of ours recently bought a used Prado (diesel) and said it was pointed out to ...
