checked a car at the wreckers today. when you remove the two phillips heads screws and withdraw the light stalk. At the end of the stalk are two tips in a fork shape that are spaced about 25mm apart. These tips are hollow and house a spring and ball bearing in each. This makes the spring in the stal...

may get more jhelp if you use headlight switch in title - I was gonna say pull the 4WD light switch from the gearbox, lubricate it, check it with a multimeter and maybe add a washer to correct its position so that your 4WD indicator light works on the dash. BUT you need help with a headlight switch...

Headlight switch wont spring back! Low to high, flash etc..89 4wd.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. The old man has an 89 subaru 4wd wagon with Ea82 carb motor. The dash and taillights started dropping out intermittently and i found that if you tap the end of the indicator/light stalk that they would come back on. Dad took the whole indicator stalk and housin...

i must have scared the old sooby today or something cos hows this; Drove it down to u-pullit wreckers (39deg today) giving it a bit more revs than normal (accel and decel) to get another carby. Pulled up in their carpark, clutch in and waited for the revs to drop and die but guess what? She's back t...

i disconnected each vacuum point at the inlet manifold one at a time (and in groups for that matter) to see if any of the hoses or fittings were split/leaking etc. They were all reconnected eventually with no change to the idle. I am 99% sure that they are not causing the problem unless there is som...

thanks for the replys. It just started out of the blue. Slowing down one night to turn right, foot on the clutch and brake to go from third back to second, dash lights came on and engine stalled. Been happening ever since. Thought fuel pump but pulled fuel supply hose from carby and started engine. ...

ej carb engines?
I have read that some import legacy's come out with carbied ej motors.
Has anybody done this conversion to an older model subie or know anything about these?
A carbied EJ22 would have to be a fairly easy swap and nice power increase to an L-series...

Well compared to spending at least another $5000 on a toyota i wouldnt mind spending a couple thousand on the subaru if it will perform just as well. A weber with mechanical secondaries sounds like a great idea! Does anyone make adaptors? I was reading up just now that the clutch type lsd's are bett...

Ultimate sand dune setup for L-series?
Where we go camping each year has alot of dunes and secluded fishing beaches which i would like to access. Stock landbruisers and hilux's got to all of these spots ok and I am wanting to try and setup my 89 L-series wagon as best as possible to tackle the soft sand and try to reach these same spots....

timing belt tensioner/guide bearings... best way to replace?
I've managed to press out the guide bearing so i'll grab one of those from CBC's, but whats the best way to fix both tensioners?
The bearings are clicking when spun by hand...
Are these bearings replacable, or do you have to buy a complete tensioner assy? Where from?
89 EA82 1800 ohc L-series.

i used an M6 bolt to punch out the cv shaft pins.
Afterwards i made a better punch by using an old screwdriver that had a 6mm shaft and hacksawed it in half...
Cant wait till the forum gets back into the swing of things.
I have lots of questions coming up...
