Just remembered, I had a fuel issue on my touring wagon with a turbo halfcut transplant 15 years ago. There's an issue with the circuit where the fuel pump earths back through the ECU. Oh, also an update on the surging issue. I've replaced the spark plugs and leads with Iridium plugs and high quality leads, didn't help. flushed the fuel filter, didn't work. Bored holes in the fuel cap, didn't work. So now I'm going to check all my sensors and the fuel pump and if that doesn't work...

I have a white hood in pretty good condition, set of 5 stock steel wheels with pretty crap tyres on them and I may be able to source a gearbox, passenger quarter panel and drivers handle + assembly.

I'm in Brisbane is the only issue I'd say.
