Thrust bearing in engine or clutch? The thrust bearing in the engine would be engine rebuild. The thrust bearing (throwout bearing) is transmission or engine out, take you pick. Then while you have either out, replace the clutch assembly, get the flywheel surface ground, and replace the spigot beari...

That won't work. The ECM adds fuel, then looks at the O2 sensor, low oxygen (rich), ECM takes fuel way, looks at the O2 sensor, high oxygen (lean), repeats in a loop - closed loop. Let's now add a fixed voltage, say 550mV, ECM adds fuel, O2 at stoich, ECM adds fuel, O2 still at stoich, ECM keeps add...

James, Your Weber should have a ported spark nipple on the side of the primary barrel. Have you set your timing while the vac advance is connected to manifold vacuum? If that is the case, disconnect your vac advance line and plug it, then set your timing to 8-10 BTDC, then reconnect the line. The ti...

A worn out/burnt out clutch which is slipping under load also tends to drag when the clutch should be disengaged to allow smooth selection of any gear from a standstill. Common complaint is difficult reverse and 1st and some non-mechanical people would think it is the transmission. A dragging clutch...

Do I need "Throttle body cleaner" to clean out the IACV? I am also going to clean out the MAF sensor. Is there any way to check for codes even though the diagnostic plug isn't there? Edit: I just opened up my air filter and took a couple photos of the MAF sensor. Does it look like it needs cleaning...

Theoretically, the remotes are either a digital pulse code at a fixed frequency or a pulse code of slightly varied frequencies. If you wrote a program on a laptop to set the codes on a frequency generator, your would eventually get it. If you knew the specific Subaru frequencies, your could read wi...

The central locking is operated from the remote and is "owner programmable" if you know how to do it. Your problem has nothing to do with central locking. The immobiliser problem you are having is most likely engine ecu/immobiliser/key transponder mismatch. ALL 3 have to be from the same model/year.

I can visualise a hydraulic with internal guts full of oil squishing oil up the push rods centre - just can't visualise a solid lifter doing same as it has no guts to contain and pass on the oil ... The lifter has a groove around the side which receives oil pressure from the main gallery. The groov...

Success! sort of... The BOV is working now but only at high rpm and boost. Could this be because the BOV is too "tough"? The car still makes the "compressor surge sound" even when the BOV kicks in or not. More than likely the spring is too heavy. If it is a no-name valve, chuck it and fit a turbosm...

Any good auto parts or plumbing store will have 4mm vacuum tee pieces. The BOV uses pressure differential to operate, boost pressure on the bottom of the piston (pre throttle body), and vacuum on the top the piston (post throttle body). Therefore on boost, no vacuum, so valve is closed. At light thr...
