I just spoke to a wrecker, he thinks that the worst case scenario cost wise would be $2200, he cracked it when I mentioned a WRX replacement box saying that it's double the cost and not geared right for N/A Libs. I'm going to drive to some mechanics in the next couple of days.

At the end of the day to stop that tyre noise will require new tyres. The front to back trick is just a diagnostic test, but it might quiet it down enough to put up with it.
