Thanks ! Maybe I'll try that and see if it works.

EA82 carby air filter housing question

There are two pipes about 10-12mm in diamter and 40mm long coming out of the passenger side of my air intake / filter housing. They are pictured in the Haynes, but not labeled. They're not connected to anything (on my car). I need to get it inspected to sell, and figure two unconnected pipes looks b...

Source for fan thermoswitch

Looks like my thermoswitch is toast. To get by for the next few days I've just jumped the wires, so now the fans are on when the ignition is. Not the most elegant solution, but better than nothing. Do any of the big chains stock these, or can someone point me to an online retailer that carries them ...

Removing door liner on '88 wagon

Hi, Since some friendly waste of oxygen punched a screwdriver through my lock, I need to replace it. How do you get the inner door panel off ? The Haynes says to push the liner in to access a clip, but there's nowhere near enough flex. I'm thinking the manual is for an earlier year since it refers t...

Hi, looking at new tyres as well. Where are you getting your P3000s and if you don't mind me asking, how much are they costing ?

Are they M+S rated ?

L series mechanic in Canberra

Want to take the L series in to get a pro to look it over - see if there's anything on the way out. Can anyone recommend a place in Canberra that knows them ? Also want them to have a look at the carb tuning since I have no idea.

Fitting child restraint to L series wagon

Hi,
Don't have a manual for the car :( Can you fit a child restraint ? If so, where are the anchor points in the back ?

Thanks,
Mike.

OK, what's in there is yellow - sounds like the 80W90.

So what is the ideal level ? Top dot ? And if so, cold or hot ? Engine on or not ?

Shifting isn't crunchy, was just checking every dipstick I coudl find before the hillclimb.

Checking tranny fluid - EA82 5 spd part time

Hi, need quick help - my service manual is in a moving box somewhere :( What's the proicedure for checking the tranny fluid on an EA82 carby 5 spd part time 4WD tranny. I think I've found the dipstick under the spare tyre, but it's just above the bottom dot. Does it need to be hot to check, or anyth...

For a basically stock car, they are a valuable diagnostic tool - I had one in my old turbo porsche, and yeah, you wouldn't tune from it but it was very useful to know whether things were working as they should be.

The lifter tick is a different noise :)

Tailshaft would seem to be unlikely since this is happening in FWD mode, so there's no load on the tailshaft either way.

It's a constant pinging. I'll have a look at the tailshaft over the weekend.

Only happens with car in gear, clutch out, no throttle. If I give it a bit of throttle (not even enough to make a difference to speed), it goes away - it's pretty much only on serious engine braking.

The machine that goes "ping"

EA82 - stock

Coasting downhill (engine braking) makes it "ping". Is this normal ?

Otherwise seems to run fine.

What can I do to fix it, if I need to ?
