I don't think a Sherpa was rare when new, they were everywhere! However, natural attrition (i.e. rust and dead parts that are unobtainium) have certainly taken their toll!

He told me it's off ea65 and won't fit my ea71 :(:( Now am just thinking about putting ea65 heads and get an ea65 camshaft as well. Read somewhere on a forum that the ea65 head flows better and would improve performance. Would like to try it out just don't know how true that is. Even if it is from ...

Have you checked the leading rod bushes? When I changed these on my wagon the change was dramatic to say the least, no more tracking problems or wandering all over the road. As noted by TOONGA you also NEED tires of the same size (and brand/make) on all four wheels. This could be a big part of your ...

Interesting opinions! Certainly smaller forums that have small memberships may suffer because of Facebook but I do not see larger ones such as The Samba or even USMB being equally affected. Their size and sheer volume of information means people will continue to use them.

I am not using the original wheel caps as the plastic does become brittle with age and I was worried about them breaking, so I bought these, a perfect fit and relatively cheap too. No logo caps - eBAy I then made up logos from this UK based site: Heko Domed Badges The end result is not bad at all! I...

He said their biggest problem was the dual range was the weakest part of the gearbox, they added an oil pump to spray oil on the gears and still had breakages. That makes sense as they ran the rally RXs in 4wd Lo all the time and I don't think the gearboxes were really designed to deal with that so...

The LSD was from a 1986 RX Turbo I purchased a number of years ago. It had a blown headgasket (What else!) and had done about 190 000 km from memory. It was the Gumtree ad that caught my eye (swap!) and the brakes in my '74 sedan had just decided they no longer wanted to retain fluid... I am now par...

Still, Mazda ain't huge and managed it for a diesel auto... Mazda might be small but they make/sell almost double what Subaru achieves each year. As you have noted Subaru's gearboxes are 'Subaru specific' due to the flat, longitudinally mounted engines. Mazda on the other hand are transverse or 'ea...
