Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Hey SubySpanner, nice to see the Red Targa is still getting some love. did see you other thread about L series 5 speed, I have a extra box here but sorry no detailed info on them. The diff you took out should have a ratio tag on the back of it... it will be either 3.7 or 3.9 as far as I know. Std Br...

Re: Forester utility
Hello Bennie, while the four doors will remain in the shell, the rear ones will become fixed in place (welded) if I can swing that through the approval, otherwise just closed with a few tech screws to make sure LOL. I would like to remove the window glass from the rear doors and if needed put in a p...

Re: Forester utility
Hello L-rex, had thought of using the existing tailgate but it has a bend in it and that seemed to be a hassle to work with so had gone through the junk yard to measure up other utes. The older Toyota Hilux single cab seemed to have a rear cabin panel and window that might be closer to the mark size...

Forester utility
Hi, I am deliberately not going to call it a ute, have been investigating taking a donor 79 series forester (2006/2007) and removing the roof rom the C pillar back. This would leave the rear doors in tact (rear seats removed) but see the tailgate and side windows gone to leave a partially un covered...

Hi Bantum, I guess if we have the keys to the castle (can log into the hosting account) then vBulletin update is the path of least work but yes looks to have a cost. Which doe we want, lot of work setting up / migrating or a one hit of cost to update? Another of the problems is that a lot of the rea...

Oh Bennie I too wish I had gone for power steer as my G/F has a sore wrist and Power steering would have been a god send but when this was all in play I did not want to add another variable to the mix but never expect a cost of over $800 as my original rack was deemed un serviceable... which is odd ...

Thanks Bennie and others, well looks like the journey is over, have replace the steering column uni joint and the Brumby is behaving well... only had a short drive today (10km) but no sign of any tightness. In the end I think there was a combination of things going on, the steering uni was causing t...

lots of time has passed and for most of it the brumby has sat at the local repairer. Picked it up on Tuesday (24th oct) and at first seemed okay Woohoo.. Drove the beast to work and thought I had felt some tightness but convinced myself I was reading too much into it.. On the way home, BAM the steer...

a forum like this is just too handy, the only downside is a lot of the image sharing is now nobbled by external policy so quite a few threads are hard to follow as so much is conveyed in the photos. I am an IT bloke so happy to help out is I can but notice this forum software is getting old and is p...

Will keep a look out for strut tops, so far my searches have not gotten me any where... So Wednesday was a drive with the local mechanic, first off it refused to play up, then in the home stretch it went full on stiff, stopped and let him drive back to the workshop, much frowning and sounds of hmmm....

Well today I stumbled over a youtube video of a strut problem on a car that sounds an awful lot like my problem (pretty well spot on)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWh3JxRJ5L8
first few mins where he describes it, is what my Brumby is like.

Thanks Silverbullet would never have thought of the strut towers, as have never had one out to full understand how they go together, hmmm time to get the books out. Given some of the other bodgy jobs done to this Brumby it might be a good spot to look as it was drowned in mud by the youngster that h...

Okay, driven again today for the trip home, had to pull off the road to answer phone, hard braking to slow down. Noticed once at stop steering tight... Ahhh once mobile it returned to normal about 500 metres later. Tried a few hard brake cycles and each time to varying degrees the steering gets tigh...

Brumby steering self centres agressively
Hi, I have a 92 brumby, std suspension, well I say that but the front struts have been replaced by a previous owner. I have an intermittent fault where the steering will take a lot of effort to move off centre to turn a corner. It is all nice and light when pointed straight ahead but when you go to ...

Thanks Henpecked, I had a can of inox at home for a while but it ran dry so did not even think to replace it, bought WD40 instead... Thank's Bantum for posting those picture of your rear end that was out of the car, I have spent the day trying to clear out the centre triangle section that was completely full of dust, stones and small sticks. My Adjuster has been wound into FULL UP on my Brumby and trying to lower the rear end, ho...

Turns out the VAC line from the manifold is 4mm ID, this then needed to go to a 4 to 2 mm reducer before it goes to the T piece near the firewall via a section of the 2mm ID vac line. Connected it all up tonight and I now have vents that change from Fresh to Recirc and my fast idle on the air cond a...
