Bored at work, so a little update. In the end it took my repairer 3 months to get my car back to me after the Christmas 2011 hail storm damage. Defects I've found with the repairs so far: 2 hail dint's still on the body. 2 paint runs, one of the rear wing and one under the rear passenger door. Pain...

Ive seen parts for SVX in Melbourne but the prices are so costly!

How long did you have the engine running with gearbox oil in it? the white smoke would be residue from the cylinders as the gearbox oil is thick and not enough to 'wipe' it down from the rings. (surely you put gearbox oil in the front diff and automatic transmission fluid as well?!?!?) (as there is ...

ah yeah by 2 teeths might be nothing - wouldnt be worried about it but yes it may idle roughly. In one of my cars in the past I did advance the timing by 1 or 2 teeths to gain better power output to pre denote early.

You still can drive it until the battery dies!!! (without A/C & P/S) Not good news eh..... (Good thing the water pump is run off from timing belt!)
Happened to me once and drive for 100kms without belts until home.

Smell needs to be identified, brakes, clutch, gearbox oil, engine oil and coolant has its own smell if something is going wrong. Is there any possibility an slow oil leak on the exhaust causing the smell? Do a test for the clutch - put in 5th gear and try drive it off - if it stalls then the clutch ...

I run into an ditch after driving exact the same car that had power steering and jumped in other car while cornering and I went in the ditch - why? no power steering.. oopsy! (as under estimated the weight of the steering!) thanks goodness no damage occurred.

The only one thing I can think of is the rear diff which is same housing as Forester! except the flange and the cover bolts.. That is all!
