The highest it ever gets is 13.8 if you sit on the accelerator for quite a while (without any accessories on). I took the car to the electrical guys today and while the alternator tested fine, they also think it's on the way out. I also discovered today that the battery in it is from 2005 (still wor...

Gees, I hope you passed on the terrors of this beast to the guys working on it - just so they know and don't try to test drive it to get the lunches and find it konks out on them.... Hahah it's not that bad really. The car is wonderful to drive, absolutely beautiful. Battery voltages check out - 12...

With that booster cooling fan - you say it does not spin freely. It is normal with that fan that if you spin it manually it will stop very quickly, whereas the slimline electric one will spin for an eternity before it stops. It is simply a difference between the two fans. Sounds to me like the passe...

Apologies for the thread revival.

What are the dangers of this treatment especially with older engines? I've been told only to use 1/3 a can initially not 1/2.

For EA81 you just take apart the air filter and spray it down the carby, correct?

I have an MY not an L, but for power steering the MY also used a smaller universal joint from the steering colum to the rack.

Give Sunspares a ring, with luck they have one they can send to you.

With the a/c on the car will idle high after clutching in to stop until you do one of two things: a) rev the engine or b)turn the a/c off then back on.

I assume that the fast idle actuator is simply a bit sticky? Or could there be something more sinister going on further down the line?

Thank you very much to all for the excellent replies. Next question - with these engines, how hot is too hot and what mean temperature would be regarded as acceptable (in degrees C)?

EA81 overheating after a/c install

Hi all, Some of you may be aware that I have just fitted an a/c system to the Brumby - see this thread - and I was very concerned about removing the existing mechanical fan and its effect on engine temperature. Well, it looks like my fears have been confirmed. When the a/c is on (both electric fans ...

I was wearing protective glasses but not ones designed to highlight the UV, and I did miss the leak, it's in the compressor shaft seal. The system has now cut out completely this morning due to a lack of refrigerant in the system. I was quoted an exorbitant amount for a compressor refurb, but I don'...

Well unless the leak is inside the evaporator, I can't see anything at midnight with a 100W UV light. Which means probably no leak. So I'm thinking the flow regulating switch in the evaporator?? We'll see what the professional says. System definitely runs but there is no cold at all. Time now to res...

I was half expecting this to happen, it is not their fault. I am off now to buy a UV light to see where the leak is coming from myself before I give the car to them again. It is booked in next week.

I'm still yet to install a relay to cut the power to the AC system, we're currently turning the fan and AC switch off otherwise we get a flat battery within 4 hours. Fun fun. What is different with your install that's causing this to happen? My system will turn off with the keyswitch as per normal....
