The safest way is just to follow what the supplier/builder recommends for the components used, as there can be many variations in part types, and views.

The 20-30 mins used to be a pre-monotorque standard, get it up to full operating temperature, then let it cool down, re-torque the heads. I guess these days it would just be a good way to fully warm it up then check everything. Then you run it on your dyno for 30-60 mins to bed the rings in, wont yo...

No, do it properly, get oil pressure up before you let it fire, with it full of coolant.
Most of us can wait.

Fuel economy

Has there been a "real"(AUSubaru drivers) fuel consumption comparison done between vehicles? I guess it would have to be done using GPS distances as trip meters vary. Would be interesting to find out. Angel gear would be banned for this Steptoe:) It would be confusing to include modified or LPG cars...

The following is a suggestion only, if used, is done at your own risk, as it does not comply with manufacturers recommended methods. Run the fuel tank low, then fill with premium. Strip the injector to get the "o" rings out. Water, no. You should use a special fluid that breaks down the "dirt" on th...

Why??
You can buy an ultrasonic cleaner on ebay for less than the postage cost.
DIY, forever.
Just make sure it has a stainless tank.

Well worth it

Removed and cleaned the injectors in my Outback, using my ebay ultrasonic cleaner. WOW would be an understatement. The low down torque and response has increased, the fuel economy is back to factory spec. I drove along a winding mountain road that I travel often, only used 5th, always had to change ...

Pretty simple. For 50mm, remove the lift blocks from either end of the bar. Weld a piece of flat bar as a "fill in" for the center, cut it curved to fit below the existing mounting holes. Drill the holes 50mm lower, I cut the nut cover off and move it down 50mm as well. Put it back without lift bloc...

Bennie, is that photo of your rear diff mounting currently what you are running.
There is a simple mod to get rid of those "grader blade" problems with the rear mounting bar.

The type of clutch in the diff centre.
They are different versions of Limited Slip Differential.
None means a normal standard diff.
The diffs I have seen so far match that list, nothing to say its perfect, as it was downloaded from another site.

There is a set of white numbers/letters stamped on the diff housing, usually on drivers side and or top of diff. Diff needs to be clean to see them, they are about 20mm high. This may help. CD --- 4.444 --- Viscous CF --- 4.444 --- Viscous EW --- 3.900 --- Viscous HY --- 3.545 --- Torsen JE --- 4.11...

The OEM 97 legacy manual lists in .20-.22 ex .25-.27. The clearances you have will not give you the problem you are trying to sort out. They will reduce the "efficiency" of the engine by "x" amount. The shims are easy to do, with the motor out:D They are fiddly to do in the car, I use a flatbalde sc...

If it is the original engine, it will be a shim adj tappets.
Non shim DOHC engines only came out 95/early 96 from what I have found out.
Costs nothing to check them and having just bought the car, it would be worthwhile.

From the dates you give, does it have shim tappets or Hydraulic?
Pop a rocker cover off and check the valve clearace.
