Venom: Project XT Forester

So I picked up a SG5 XT Luxury a few weeks ago as a replacement for my H6 Liberty. It was a 1 very pedantic owner vehicle, low km's (128,000km) and with impeccable service history. Longest between services was about 12,400km. Timing belt was done early at 88,000km with water pump. http://img.photobu...

It had 5+mm runout spinning up on the hoist. Had a straight edge on it and the shaft is bent between the joints. Problem is back anyway. Was beautiful for about 75km, very quickly going back to how it was. Same as when i swapped out the gearbox, it was perfect for about 50km then turned to shit again.

So we had the car running on the hoist before swapping out for a stock rear diff. Guess what? Left rear driveshaft was bent like a fking banana. Backlash on rear diff was spot on, still going to pull it apart for inspection. Car is now driving like a dream. Front right shaft is also a little bent. S...

Yes well if i had the later H6 that might work. Mineis the earlier one that only came with an auto. I'll be revisiting this issue once the drivetrain is sorted. Later motors with manual are CANBUS anyway.

SF forester gearbox in there at the moment, so DCCD is on the garage floor. Another part of the reason fkr fiting an SF box was to convert to a hydraulic clutch so i get some more clamping pressure with a stock clutch kit. Plus the clutch cable was too short with a body lift Sounds like a bit of a b...

Yes and yes VV, the urethane bushes did make it harsher and changed the feel which helped narrow it down to the diff itself. I have been 'driving around' the issue for many month, now at the point that is impossible. As i understamd it seems unlikely the pinion/crown wheel has worn that much. Maybe ...

Short answer, no. The cusco will come out, and either just go straight into a stock SF gearbox with the DCCD or I'll fit it all into an SG casing with the stronger gears. I see no point rebuilding the early gen gearset.

So a quick update, this epic shudder/jerking problem is still on-going. Imagine the drivetrain acting like a jackhammer, that's the best description for it. Stock SF gearbox ended up going into the car. 1.447 and 4.11 for $300 from Jollys. This saw no change to the problem, but needed to be done any...

For most of the people I know it's more a matter of principle than a fear of legal prosecution. I've just purchased CyberGhost 5 VPN service, installed on my mobile phone and all the devices at home, cause screw 'em.

Yeah 4.44. I think i'll be able to pretty much make up most of the ground from the drop to a 1.44 low range and gain the stronger SG gears... just an all round better gearbox. 4.44 should be less strain on the gears too. The 5th in this STI box is 0.730 so if I use it the revs will be lower than fac...

The beauty of this single range swap is that the male/male driveshafts (Which i prefer for the stub delete) and clutch setup will work with an SG dual range and frees up my DCCD and Cusco for inspection and swap. The cusco actually has some end float with the stubs so it will be overall a better out...

Will you be driving this around for a while? Serious downgrade from a DR DCCD twin LSD drivetrain :( It will be for the foreseeable future. I'm really not concerned about it's off-road capabilities at present. Plenty of passenger seats around if I need my offroad fix. Hmmm... Interesting move! I've...
