I wonder though if an EJ conversion would "ruin" it? In the US with more of them, not so much, but rare here. Was toying buying the wrecked one in Adelaide, but I've got too many projects :p, and now a kid (though he's almost at the age of climbing into the seat himself...)

So what vehicles do those transmissions belong to? I always thought it was only the late 90s 2L Impreza sportswagon that had the "good" low range. Been half contemplating putting a diesel in my touring wagon project, but they only came with a single range 6 speed. Might need a bit of screwing around...

I know this is an old thread, but thought there should be some correction.
Not only available on touring wagons. Some "GL" spec 91 onwards wagons had them as an option.

Just an update I will be removing the air suspension from my black Vortex (looks good super low at the moment when its not bolted to the rear axle). If I'm going to sell the air suspension how much would they be worth and also where is the control box for it or is it in the ECU? Been away for awhil...

Interested to see how you with the wolf. I've got to do some serious searching to solve the check engine light issue on mine, so might ditch the factory wiring. But it's going to be a pain with the 4eat behind it... I was originally trying to keep "original" period mods with the exception of lib rs ...

No worries about the waiting for L series stuff. If you're going to get stuff done in China, I travel here often as I'm married to a woman from Shanghai (and am there at the moment enjoying the smog, how I miss Aus sun, clouds and blue sky...). If you can get packages made to fit as luggage and <23k...

Would love to do most of this drive sometime.
Out of curiousity, some of those "off-road" (not the beaches) places look like they were pretty hard packed & wouldn't need 4wd.
How much of the trip do you reckon could be done with a 2wd?

L series door handle surrounds might be nice. The plastic goes bad after being in the sun too long.
Power window surrounds also go brittle where the screws from behind break.

Might have some spares I can donate for the good of all if you need samples to measure off.

Does the turbo 4 pin ecu work? I've 2 dud ones here which don't allow my fuel pump to work.
Can you list the part number so I can check for compatibility please?

Would be very interested in the LSD & radiator. I'm also often going up the Pac Hwy to SE Qld, so if someone wants something transported, could work out something. I've seen 2 spider manifolds with 3 pin TPS, though these were still using the original throttle body on earlier cars with "black" ECU. ...

It's a bit hard to do your method when I can't get the engine to start with the proper ECU... something I just read for trouble shooting said something about an open circuit causing a knock sensor error. I do need to check the wiring to check for shorts, etc. This may explain why it still won't star...

JDM turbo touring wagon (1990): not running correctly

So I'm trying to get my JDM turbo touring wagon running. The fuel pump isn't working (but works when powered directly from the battery) Using the check connectors, I'm getting error code 22, which I'm told is the knock sensor. The positive side of the fuel pump wiring works ok. The relay turns on fo...

Have you contacted Subareck in Adelaide? He's got all kinds of older subies around. I saw a few vortexes in the yard when I was there last December. BTW, in El Freddo's post showing the 6 pins on the L series control unit, the extra 2 pins are for variable timing. I've got an 8 pin one I bought from...

No, the intermittent unit for the L series is completely different to the Vortex. Mainly because it can't park the wiper though.
