Careful with your analysis of the crack between the valve seats. If it is only a minor crack with no signs of leaking (and the seats look good), provided you don't overheat the engine in the future, they will be fine. If the cracks go up into the port passages or show signs of leaking (stains around...

It would be worthwhile measuring your oil pressure.
Does the motor make a knock knock sound for the first few seconds after you start it from cold?
This indicates worn crank bearings, these could be bleeding your oil pressure@ idle.

If you get automotive acrylic paint plastic undercoat, the top coat you use needs to have some "magic stuff" added to it for use on plastic, the paint mixing guys know what it is.

Have fun and let us know what you do.

I've never changed the shafts, yet.

You should use the forks that match the gears.
The diameter of the slot the fork fingers sit in, varies between some gears, usually the 3/4 fork.

There is an undercoat for plastics, used when doing bumpers etc.
It makes the top coat stick.

Maybe, but that would be a lot of work.
Debatable if it would be worth it for what you gain.
But with Tweety pretty well sorted and you are looking for something to do ........

Make sure you match the selector forks to the gears.
Many a box has been done where the selector forks "fit" but are too big. This chews out the sleeve on the fork tips.

Some webers have an initial progression stage casting that can be drilled to suit your engine. This is a bit complicated, but it gives good economy and eliminates flat spots on initial progression. A lot of people just put bigger jets in, this solves the flat spot problem, but reduces efficiency/eco...

Weber carbs are very adjustable and can be set to work over a wide range. I had a Datsun 1600, L18 motor, "hot" cam, running 2 x twin 45DCOE Weber's. That's one 45 for each cylinder. Responsive, reasonable economy (relative to how hard you push the go pedal) and loved a rev. A good dyno tune was all...

Tweety now has more power and less brakes, well done :)

Great to see it seems to be working out, there were so many variables in what you have done.

Good job.

Yes, just briefly, on/off, do it a few times, ie imitate a set of points.
Do not short the coil +ve -ve, just on/off the -ve to ground, whilst the +12v is on.

Doug is correct, the true way to read a coil (pretty well any coil) is to measure its inductance. From that you can work out what you really should be seeing from it. Unless you understand inductance and have equipment to measure it, it can be hard to make any sense of it. Nice to do in the "ideal w...

Lower resistance readings can indicate the windings are shorted.
Shorted windings kill the induction field.
Then it no work, as proven by our coil induction specialist, Tony:)

anyone got ideas on how to test? I have suspicions of the main coil to cap high voltage lead. How can I test that? Pull it out of the centre of dizzy cap, connect it to a spark plug (earthed on the motor), crank. You should get lots of sparks. Or measure it with your multimeter, provided its a stan...

You can change the bearing, on those, but it's a bit fiddly, wouldn't do it unless you have done similar before.
