I usually use 80w/90. In the race car with the 4sp we ran dry once and all we had was used 10w/40 which worked well enough but the next weekend we raced my Co drivers boss gave me some 110w/140 and it made the shifter a lot firmer, and no gear crunches at all. I was thinking of getting a 90w/110 as ...

What's your preferred oil for an old but not warn out gearbox?

As the topic asks, what oil do you use? I'm mainly interested in the weight, not the brand. Thanks

Wanted: Fiori front strut top

I actually only need the rubber from one but will take the whole thing so long as it's in good condition. I'm in SA. Will pay for postage if you're interstate.

Thanks,

You'll need one of the newer centre diffs from the 8 bolt EJ boxes. Pretty much any 5 sp box from 2000 onwards would have one. Ive replaced one while the box was on the car, it's not hard if you have a hoist or pit to use. Probably 2 hours if you had a coffee break during the process. They just make...

It's an attack on the Gumtree site. It's happened in the past. It's not malware on your phone or computer. Sometimes using a different browser has helped but otherwise you'll just need to wait until they have fixed it.

Outback has better space inside the car, especially the boot. Forester has much better ground clearance (body ground clearance I should say).

Both ride and handle similar, although I think the Forester is a bit stiffer, sportier.

I hit 8300rpm in my old dual carb ea81 a couple of times. I did end up replacing a few broken valve springs before it was bought by SilverBullet. No lasting harm was done

There's an SF Forester at Lonsdale with a Suba Xtreme bullbar, it's dented but fixable, especially since the price of those bars is so high.

The my p/s is still there too

Springs only get stiffer as they are tensioned (twisted). Adjusting the torsion bar on the inner side only rotates the entire bar which is how it lifts the rear of the car. As Bennie said, if you are topped out (limited by the shock absorber) then you would twist the spring and the stiffness would i...

Winding the torsion bar up does not increase firmness. It only changes the resting position.

Only down sides I can think of is the wheels go forward in the guards and camber goes more positive as you wind up.

If you want to keep part time 4wd you have the option of 3.7 and 3.9 to 1 ratio front diff. The pinion gear is part of the output gear set. You can only use ea82 gearbox parts. If you want AWD then that's another, very long, story.
