been a while since had a car with points. Isn't the ballast resistor only in the circuit during engine start ? The resistor being there drops the voltage, because if the engine is sitting at a position with the points closed, current is going through the coil, and otherwise the coil would burn up. I...

I find with the OBW, if you draw about 1amp is is already quite a significant voltage drop at the ciggie socket, so the wiring is not that great really. I did a rewire of suitable heavy gauge direct from the battery, via a fuse + a lo voltage cutout relay to merit socket/plugs - a much more satisfac...

Ah yes the perils of false positives. ... Having attended a fatality and numerous other serious accidents, I believe 0.0 - 0.02 to be the best solution to making a dent on drink driving (it will never stop drink drivers) ... TOONGA I tend to agree, I don't drink much myself, this has mainly occurre...

best way to look at it is the device tests the difference between the supply leads of device and the test point. Example so if supply at 12V and test at 12V => Red Led 11.5 => Red dimmer, maybe bit of green? test at 0V => Green Led 0.5 => Green Dimmer and maybe red start glowing ? I think your test ...

so you just go full lock with the steering and stop within less than a meter even on a wet road or a loose gravel road. don't try this on newer cars though, it doesn't work, and full lock isn't like it is on the L series. I suppose ABS is supposed to save us in the newer cars.:conf...

Hi Klam you are stressing over nothing. At 95k, your car is just "run-in" going by our forum standards.Hopefully you saved a lot of money by buying 2nd hand. Now some of that saving does need to be ploughed back for the 100k service, which is an important one. Even if you had bought a new car, you w...

G'day klam :D ... Everyone seems to recommend doing the water pump at the same time as its in the same part of the engine. IE a lot of the labour has already been done to do the belts.. except your adding another near $200. At 95k its still near new for the pump, unless the prior owner has been com...

And I'm still quite interested into fine tuning the car by some specialist. If anyone can help, that would be great. [Sydney based] Thanks! what do you imagine there is to fine tune in these cars ? Unless its on a dyno and engine ECU parameters are being adjusted, IMO there is nothing anyone does t...

well for a MT in 98 OBW, it was a bit tricky. purchased a 17mm open end spanner from the cheap box at a hardware store for $1 and cut it in half. The spanner face still needs some grinding down a bit. IIRC, pulled the surround for the shifter in the cabin to access or did I do it from underneath...b...

the weld looks like its glued on:) To be frank, a 100A arc welder is just useless for any but the smallest of the smallest jobs. You need 180A and more to start doing decent welding with arc. However with a MIG, a 130A welder works good for 3mm+ mild steel - the shielding gas makes all the differenc...

good write up there mate, glad its all passed. Yeah blue slip guys get all annal when they spot the first missing pipe and generalize. Lol they thought it was an EGR valve, probably never seen an ea82 before...... Though a 2" lift doesn't need engineering, no point arguing that with the blue slip, t...
