http://ausubaru.com.au/picture.php?albumid=187&pictureid=2138 Does anyone know how to connect up the fuel lines to keep the charcoal canister? I'm assuming some of the lines might need to be blocked off? There's only one connection on the Weber though there is a plate i could remove to get a fuel r...

I am sure the flange for fly on the back of the crank is not integrally part of the crank - more is splined or interference fit on the crank and this would be where some oil may seep ?? Yes, you are right. It is pressed on. I ended up putting an o-ring in there but I doubt it would be big enough to...

Yeah, best to just get the rack rebuilt professionally when that happens. Although some swear by a cap of brake fluid in the power steering to swell the oil seals and extend the racks life.

Next problem. The crank to flywheel seal. Here is my old crank.. http://ausubaru.com.au/picture.php?albumid=187&pictureid=2117 The seal is pretty obvious here... it's red. My engine manual describes it as an o-ring. It's very flat and my VRS kit has a seal in it just like it. But I wouldn't call it ...

Cheers Bennie. It probably is something electrical like that. I think I'll just book it in and pay the money to have it fixed.

Did you find any? I recently threw some away but I may have a few more if I go through my spares and have a good look if you are still stuck. Can't promise anything though.

So, yes, the crank will move backwards and forwards on the thrust bearing but not that that extent. It turns over smoothly with the distributor in so i think those gears are meshing nicely. I'd be interested in your measurements Paul, just let me know where you are measuring from and we'll compare. ...

Good question. I'll grab a can and give it a go. It's not critical which vacuum hose it goes into, is it?

I believe the colours pretty much line up as well from memory. With a multimeter and bridging wire it's simple to check. The colours will give you a good place to start.

MY04 Liberty RPM hunting at idle

Hi, the RPM on my Subaru Liberty drops off at idle - but only when the air conditioner is on. It idles perfectly if you turn the A/C off. But with it on, when the clutch engages on the compressor the engine begins to die. It seems like the clutch releases at very low RPM and it the revs pick back up...

http://ausubaru.com.au/picture.php?albumid=187&pictureid=2096 So, for some reason it seems the crank pulley wants to sit too far back and not align with the water pump. Looks like it needs to be shimmed out by 2mm. And it's not just the water pump, the power steering belts just rubs on the distribu...

You haven't popped a cap off the bottom of the pushrod and somehow not noticed. Or picked up a pushrod from an ea71. Seems strange.

Cheers Bennie and Paul, I uploaded the photo's. I thought that's what the tape was for, just thought I'd double check. I did notice the new seals have an L and R stamped on them with an arrow point to the direction of rotation... but only after much study. I'll wait until Monday and get some new O-r...

Cheers Bennie, I hadn't had any luck on my searches. I have one side out... I see now that it's threaded! It took 6 complete turns. I damaged one of the tabs you will see near my thumb but I'm thinking this won't matter. Did you replace the o-ring whilst you were at it on the retainers? And when I p...

L series gearbox driveshaft seals

I'm trying to get new seals for the front left and right driveshafts into a 92 l series 5 speed dual range gear box. The seals I have have the same numbers on them as the seals they are replacing. They are 50mm OD and a rough measure of the OD on the gearbox is 47mm. There appears to be a lip on the...

The hose goes into a water jacket under the carburetor, I assume it's to operate a water choke. Early ea81's had a manual choke and didn't have the t off here from the heater line from memory. Earlier ea81's had a cross pipe to transfer the water between the block halves. It was incorporated into th...

Well, if my postie in the US comes out of his hibernation and gets my little parcel moving, they will be Rockauto specials, and so far only found one way to fit them correctly ? I do like genuine head gaskets, no added goop, no Hylomar, no snail trails, no need for retension. Cool. I'm probably bei...

You've probably got an earlier ea81 motor with points having swapped from a later model ea81 with electronic ignition (with no condensor).
