Cam timing - if the crank and inlet cam on the passengers side are not correct it won't run. If any of the other 3 are out it will have have a bad idle.

Not planning on it Paul. I'd love to get over there one day but a long way north of Perth. I want to do the bungle bungles in a year or so.

Well that solves that problem. I have been trying to work out how I was getting from Perth to Hyden. Finke it is then. Any idea where you are staying this year? I'd like to start booking things soon if I can.

Hmmm, a black one. Not many of them around in that colour. The only problem I can see you are going to have is finding the garnish that goes around the dash near the steering wheel. They are quite rare.

Keep the pics coming as you do it up.

Yours doesn't have variable cam timing does it? I thought it was after 01 that it came in. Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like some thing to do with variable cam timing. The pic isn't working for me now but I had a quick look late last night. I wouldn't mind having another look at the pic.

Second option until it gets to a point where it can't keep up any more and then you start to lose boost pressure. That is actually why I was asking about where you had your boost gauge fitted. I think if it had a major split or crack in one of the pipes you would not still be getting 10psi at the pl...

I asked about the boost thing because if it is close to the turbo it can show 10psi but be losing it/leaking before it gets to the pistons. Where you have it will give an accurate reading.

It certainly does but it will also do that if the ecu detects knock and pulls your timing back.

Where does your boost gauge tap in? Is it right at the plenum?

It is not the type of car that is the issue, it is your car. I don't know what model you have but I would be pretty sure it has, well should have more power than my NA2.5 auto outback. I know for a fact that it would tow a tonne camper trailer with out being dangerously slow and it would not overhea...

Turbo lag is waiting for boost. If your gauge is showing boost then your car should be accelerating.

I was just thinking about a mates car that I fixed last week. It is a 6 cyl commodore that was gutless and although not overheating it was running hotter than it should under load.It took me ages to work it out but eventually I came down to the cat. I took it out and had a look inside. It was stuffe...

800-1000kgs should be no problems for it. There must be some thing wrong there as you already thought. I towed our camper with the 2.5 turbo liberty all over the place and never had a hint of trouble with overheating. Our van was always around 1200kgs when loaded. Add to that the weight of a car ful...

The 2.5 in that model is renowned for head gasket issues. I think it would be the gaskets BUT do what the other have suggested before you start pulling the engine out. Very first thing I would do is pull that new thermostat out again and cut the guts out of it. I have seen many new ones fail. This w...

We used to elongate the holes as well until we worked out the correct offset for the strut tops. Fix the strut tops and you will fix the problem.

I did see that every one was adding in an opinion on how things could or couldn't go. I just had to put a stop to the direction the thread was heading before it did start offending people. No apologies needed and nothing further required by any one in relation to that.

Hi, Has anyone put a V8 into an L series? Keeping the 5 speed hi lo? This is the original post. Must be some thing wrong with my eyesight, I can't see it written any-where asking for opinions on what you think of the idea. Pointing out that it isn't viable is fine but bagging the bloke for asking i...
