The fact that you have specified that they are both Dual Range tells me that they are both Manual... In that case, the 2001 (SF Forester) has a lower standard Low Range than the 2003 (SG Forester) model does. But as pezimm has said above, the SG offroad parts (i.e. Bullbar, Sump Guard etc) are a lit...

I have a feeling that the reference to 'selective AWD' is to the Dual Range lever perhaps as I am also not aware of any EJ gearboxes with 'selective' anything other than Low Range...

Hi Frug, I am not sure if this is helpful but Carsales have a section under "Specifications" that details the length, width and height of each model of car as well as other dimensions such as wheelbase etc... All you need to do is do a search on the vehicle you are interested in and click on one of ...

I'm in love with the look of this Forester!!! Looks so awesome! You've done a great job and I love the look of that Front Bar!! So much better approach angle than the standard SubaXtreme one for that model!!

Outbacks have slightly worse approach and departure angles than the Forester but I agree that they have a few more features and are nice and comfortable but that also equals more weight!

Maybe that was when it changed over. All I know is that my 1997 SF Forester had the 4 bolts and my 2002 SF Forester had the 8 bolts. I just assumed the change over happened during the change of shape but it may have been earlier - I am just commenting on personal experience.

Hi Phizinza, The gearbox in my 97 SF Forester had 4 bolts and the gearbox in my 2002 SF Forester had 8 bolts so I am assuming that they changed over during the release of the "Facelift" SF Forester which would have been around 2000 - I am unable to comment on the other models though I am sorry... I ...

You would think that working on newer cars would be more tedious with more electronics involved!

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience but as others have said above, why not give it a try yourself, that way you know it will be done the way you want it to be done :)

It's the original prototype bullbar made by the original owners of SubaXtreme. The grandfather of the current bars.
