JP147 Thanks for the info, from photos of these shocks they look like they will need some modes for the top shock mount. Will see what others replies say. P.S. from your signature photo I see you have an external windscreen sun shade (eyebrow) I am considering one of these. Any comments for or agai...

Thomas (Phizinza) was trying KYB part no 343157 shocks which are OE for Chevy Chevelles, Caprices, El Caminos, etc. but I am yet to try them myself.

Yeah, it has a nice Subaru sound to it. Probably will bend the mounts a bit to keep it further away from the tailshaft but it is good for now.

TOONGA
The bolt was plenty long, I just cut it a bit short. Still long enough to do the job, the nut was fully on the thread. I used some loctite on the part going into the head.

Easy fix for stripped exhaust stud holes

I tried this way of fixing it and it seems to work fine. A stripped hole is around 10mm, which is the drill size for an M12 thread. I cleaned the hole with a 10mm drill bit, then tapped it to M12 x 1.75. Then I got an M12 bolt from Bunnings and cut the shank off (I cut it a bit short but that is ok)...

I saw a set of 13" Cheviots like those on a coupe at u pull it Gillman. I went to buy them but they wanted $40 each so I left them near the door. Maybe they are the same ones.

Thanks guys, I will get it. No hurry, this one has been leaking for at least 2 years. It has only gotten worse in the last few weeks but the coolant level still hasn't gone down noticeably. So the original metal shrouded electric fan doesn't fit and I will have to get a second fan like the a/c one, ...

Mine had been helicoiled and the helicoil pulled out. Ended up putting the studs in the other 2 holes and modifying the exhaust.

You can see the large hole where the helicoil was at the bottom.

I recommend buying locally. SJR kits are nearly 500 Australian dollars, then add shipping, then convert shipping to AUD, it could be near $1000. Most lift kits come with a steering shaft extension. Cross b r e d performance did sell extensions separately, but I am not sure if they are still in busin...

I think I filled mine with oil first and then put some assembly lube into the hole that supplies oil to the pump. The oil pressure light went out while it was still cranking. This is what it says to do in the "How to Keep Your Subaru Alive" manual: "Hold the pump up to the case in its installed posi...

You can do it without removing anything, you can even leave the bash plate on (but removing it makes it easier). Removing the crank pulley also makes it easier but that is a job in itself and I would only do that if replacing the pulley/seal while I am at it. Use a 1/4" drive ratchet with a small ex...

You shouldn't need to use longer ones. I just removed them from the mounts on the trailing arms and hammered the mounts down. They are loose enough to allow full travel without getting pulled but not so loose they rub on anything. When using standard front lines, be careful they are not rubbing on a...

Making A/C work

When I bought the car, there was no AC belt and the previous owner didn't know if it worked. I got a belt and replaced the idler bearings, but still no AC. There is gas and the pressure switch is closed, but there is no voltage at the pressure switch. I wired the compressor clutch positive straight ...

You don't need lead substitute because you have aluminium heads. Engines with iron heads need it. If the car has been sitting a long time, it would be a good idea to drain the old fuel from the tank. Also fit a new fuel filter, check for deposits in the float bowl, make sure jets aren't blocked, che...

Land Rover, Patrol and what - a Subaru! Love it! It gets some looks and comments at the tracks. There are a lot of people out there running open diffs who wonder why their big 4x4 can't keep up with a Subaru. It's all fixed now. New tyres, antenna and bullbar mounts. http://i.imgur.com/UYXMSgf.jpg?1
