This is a reasonably accurate representation of the end result of grafting a Brumby rear section into an MY wagon, using areas of the wagon and Brumby panels patchworked to make the final structure. About an hour's work in Corel photopaint 12 and Paint Shop Pro 4.1 (can't beat this version)... http:...

The most important quality a "welder" (the person, that is) can have is the knowledge and skill to produce a GOOD weld with whatever tools he has at hand. Quality is all about "fit for purpose", which means get whatever will do the job for the money you're willing to fork out... A Sidchrome spanner ...

I have tried "pull starting" my Subie one time, but the battery was too low to power the ignition. (Mine is an auto, and was stuck in an awkward position off road). Simply undid a strand from a Telstra rope, wrapped it around the spare crank pully, braced my foot against the front wheel and pulled l...

What a "shocking" idea... It's "electrifying"... (but not as much as Greased Lightning) Think he's got his wires crossed... It's in GLADE green. Plug it innn, plug it innn... Are the batteries included?... One thing I'd like to know, if you run out of power half way home, can you charge it by rubbin...

I'm about to start putting up my shed and my wife's stables, which will use ironbark posts about 10 inches thick. Since the posts will weigh a bit, and they'll be pretty tall, I knocked up a crane jib to lift them with and make it easier to place them in their holes... The jib pops apart easily with...

You simply inform him that next time he does it, you'll dismantle his car and force feed it to him piece by piece. (Anything he can't fit in could be fitted into needy Subies). Worked a treat when we had a guy on an unregistered trailbike running up and down the street at over 100kph. Cops didn't di...

Ok, the battery compartment is made out of 1.9mm thick steel, which is thicker than both the chassis and the ute floor, and can stand to cop a nasty dent or two without cramping the battery enough to damage it. In addition to this, in order to dent the floor of that compartment, it would have to be ...

Got the last side hammered out this afternoon and started welding things in place. Starting to look like part of the car now... http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/458/image514.jpg http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/5486/image513j.jpg http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/5356/image540z.jpg http://img442.im...

The battery compartment is stronger than it needs to be. It's hand formed from 1.9mm sheet steel, with gusseting ribs and floor ribs to protect the battery from possible off road impacts. If it's TOO strong, it would be like welding an anvil into the frame. Tortional, impact and deceleration forces ...

Just a little update on ONE of my "way too many" projects. Did this the other night. Broke up a toy car from Aldi to put forrester style wheels and full interior into the "Micro beast". This'll do as a shelf display model until I install the full radio control system, 4WD with front and rear diffs, ...

Just a couple more pics. The door for this battery box needed to be pretty resistant to things being dumped on it, as it's right at the back of the ute bed. It may look like it belongs on a Hummer, but it's going back into the "H4" Brumby. Hinges were actually cut out of a bit of 65mm medium pipe wa...

Ok, the metalwork is done now. The details were put into the body with a 5 inch angle grinder, just to challenge myself further. The cutoff disc was actually bigger than the whole car... Headlights, tail lights, grill, interior will be put in using carved plastic. At this stage I'm planning on actua...

Just a toy...
I decided to knock together a quick little model of the MY series wagon, as I dont have one yet and haven't ever found any on the toyshop shelves. Just used a scrap of 1.2mm gal sheet, drilled, cut, filed and hammered 2 identical side pieces, then welded in a roof and bonnet between them. I might fi...

Let's see if anyone can figure this one out... Rick, Ross and our associated family type people need not apply (they know ALL my secrets). http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/9488/subielogo2.jpg And this second photo might be reversed, just to confuse people further. http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/37...

This is what Rick was talking about. I was asked to take an angle grinder and a hammer to a leftover bit of "C" pulin so that a Liberty radiator can be slotted into a Forrester. Had to make mirror images of the original (after I'd modded it too)... http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4966/radmounts.png
