importing cars from NZ

Post by SWAMP » Mon Feb 06, 2006 7:08 pm

I have noticed that all the import cars are a lot cheaper in NZ, does anyone know if you can import models like the Legacy GT, and costs associated like frieght, compliance??

Oversteer has done this.

There is a lot of legwork involved in bringing the car over then getting it ADR complied and registered.

I beleive it is no longer possible. I'm not 100% sure of the particulars but I think OS only just managed to scrape the last car in before some law got changed.

cars before jan 89 are easi-ish. get the vin# run it by dotars (or subaru as I did.) get the age of the car. apply for import , buy and pay for car OS organise shipping ($1700 ex CHCH.) pay tarrif and clenaing once it gets here ($624) tow it home.

was considering it again till I found waht I was looking for here.

newer ones require you to live where the car is for 12 months and be able to show that you were with the car.

Those are quite thick heavy metal bars built into the inside of the doors. They add an element of safety incase you get T-boned by another car or a pole whilst sidways. Otherwise you are only protected by the 2mm thick metal of the outside of your door and a small amount of other metal and door trims.

I recall someone telling me at work... was blabbing about it....... that if you want to import a car from overseas.. you have to live in that country for at least a year or more.. then you should be able to?

Not sure...
