Had it bogged to the sills on Stockton already. BTW Stockton is a cut up bitch of a place right now! The dunes weren't bad I got stuck going a little too close to a drift drop off and the turbo diesel didn't have the herbs to keep me moving. The Patrol recovery vehicle was present though (Dad has a kick arse Prado) that made short work of snatching me out.
Santa brought me a REAL 4wd for Christmas!

Nah, no way I was touching the ZD30 timebomb! It's the old skool RD28 6 cylinder diesel with a paltry 95kw/252nm, does alright lugging 2300kg of truck around though. About the same as the brumby for get up and go.Matatak wrote:well....i like it
they are the 3.0TD's arent they
Anyone asking the 'why' question...
A growing family means the brumby is less and less favourable. And the Outback isn't a brilliant tow vehicle, although rated to tow 1600kg it doesn't much like the 900 or so I put behind it. I needed something family friendly, with good towing capacity, good offroad ability in standard form, good economy and reliable. GU Patrols tick all of those boxes...

common theme here - I would also drive a patrol if i was to buy a big rig.
Also whats wrong with the 3L Ben - the one in my old man's Navara is tops. I think they are too small to be pushing a patrol but they are well suited to the navara.
its a real shame they stopped producing the 4.2 diesel patrols.

Navara runs a conventional wastegate setup and the patrol runs a variable nozzle control system, the maf and egr control boost via the ecu and it isn't uncommon to see boost in the 20's on a Patrol ZD30 (15psi on a Navara), when the maf fails boost pressure goes nuts and the egr directs more exhaust to piston 3/4 and ends up in one of those pistons going pop. This is what I have figured out from the research I have done. ie D22 navara is all good, GU2+ is no good... I guess that is why nissan has dumped the ZD30 after one vehicle cycle and gone to the 2.5L crd...vincentvega wrote: Also whats wrong with the 3L Ben - the one in my old man's Navara is tops.

Time bomb on early 3 litres is right. So too the 2.8s. You couldn't give me one! I have seen far too many needing a tilt-tray ride home. Best of luck with it, I hope it serves you well, just don't get up it too much.Ben wrote:Nah, no way I was touching the ZD30 timebomb! The old poo trols is a good option of a stock as a rock 4x4 in my opinion too well better than a land bruiser anyway! But sounds like you can still run around in the brumby as a weekender or for some fun!
By the way just checked out your signature just goes to show I don't listen to good advice!
