The 6" lift's do look good, but it's very important to make it safe.
The main issues I for see are with the authorities regarding the lift and with the EA81 driving the 30" tyres.
Although from what I hear bluesteel seems to manage with these issues ok.

To become old and wise, first you must survive being young and dumb.

I think for a 6" you should join the lift blocks all together, kind of making a subframe. Otherwise you're just asking to break stuff. Also you'll want to make it somehow so you can use the standard bolts to bolt it up with new bolts holding the bottom on, I think 6" lift you'd need bolts rediculously long to reach all the way through and you'd be creating some major weak spots.
I know some guys on USMB have gone down this track.

driving the 30's with the ea81 with twin carbs and a 3.7 4 speed was doable.... but it was getting to the stage where the car would stall before shed get bogged.
now with the ej22 and the 3.9 5speed... it feels like it has a heap more power, but thats only been up and down the driveway
as for the authorities, i havent tried my luck much yet, has only been out with the ea81 a couple times
and thats only with a 4" lift and a lot of fender cutting

Well . . . I drive a 5" lifted, EJ20'd L-series every day. I promise you 3 things will happen before get it to work out correctly:
1) You'll be poor
2) You'll be divorced
3) You'll cry. Possibly more than once.
Next Subaru I build will be a 3" lift.

Monster Subaru sold to a good home!! Still a Subaru owner. Will try stay in the Ausubaru loop. Sorry
HMM STILL UNDICIDED I LOVE THE LOOK BUT I HAVE A REAL CONCERN ABOUT DRIVE QUALITY, DRIVABILITY AND RELIABILTY I DONT WANT TO RUIN THE CAR BUY MAKING IT UNRELAIBLE AND ONLY SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DRIVIN ROUND TOWN OBVIOUSLY I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WILL BE TEETHING PROBLEM BUT I AM A QUALIFIED MECHANIC AND HAVE A EQUIPED WORK SHOP THE SOLVEMOST OF THE MECHANICAL HASSLE BUT I CANT STAND A CAR THAT IS A PIG TO DRIVE AND YOU SPEND MORE TIME WORRING BOUT BREAKING AND SCRAPING THEN ENJOY DRVING CHEER THANK FOR VALUED OPINIONS

I said "no" only because the reason you should be doing a liift is for offroad capability, not show, but besides reliability you need strength. A sube with say 2" is to give it abit of capabilty more than stock, but when your considering something like 6", maybe thinking it can do like a large 4wd ?, I just think if thats what your after, just buy it "off-the-shelf" in the form of a large 4wd.
The shortwheel base jeep/suzuki look like they make a great platform for lift mods....seen some about.........

Hi again i have have been a little slow in letting you guys my intention for this ute it is my daily work ute and no i am not doin it for the reason of "bling" or lookgood as i may have sounded i am doing it as a practical allround vehicle that can have a dual pupose.this is my 6th subaru and i have had and built many other brands of 4x4 landrover defender 6inch lift maxi drives 35"bajaclaws tyres patrol Gq inwhich i twin turboed lockers35"simex trekkers, xj jeep lifted 33"procomps sierra lift 5" v6 commodore motor hilux diffs 35"tyres (not nice to drive and unstable quick in a straightline) but i like my brumby and i think it has mega potetinal and can do most of whatthe other cars could do but may be more. i intend on fitting a ej 25 with 99 model sti heads hi flowed td04 microtech and nitrous if need for racing and a liberty automatic which i am looking for a sequentail shift computer setup that i have seen on a us forum all this will be fitted after the lift is sorted i beleive in doing one thing at atime and doing it well. i intened on racing it a cruiser park in the gymkanas and other similar events. i had a my wagon that i fitted a 4" kit to and had a set of superconqourer(sorry bout spelling) and it was quite ok to drive but i want to go to the next step sorry if i came across as a young "spanker" doinng it for looks i have seen plenty of cars people have done for looks and i have had to try to snatch them out on fraser island sometimes sucsessful other not but 1100kg car pulling 3oookg car out from holes the odds are against it. its good for a photo anyway. i hope i have cleared up my intentions
well if thats the case, go the 6" lift, reinforce everything, have some sort of removable swaybar setup so you can run nice stiff swaybars for the road, get it all engineered and enjoy.
but shoot for 31's sooo much more tyre choice, but youve prolly come across that already
you will certinaly have the power to get the bigger tyres moving, just gotta make sure the auto is up to it, but by the sounds of it i reckon you can cover that
oh and lift the front up an inch or so more than the back seem to sit flatter that way

sounds like you know what your on about
It would be great to see example of the divorced transfer case conversion...maybe too, live rear axle here in Aus
I'd be thinking of a new complete reinforced subframe - the subaru monoque body aint very strong. I'd also question whether subaru cvs/axles are up to it. Anyway who would care if the only subaru thing left on it is the body and engine? Still, thinking them/building them may be easy enough...making it legal for the road, thats the bloody hard/$$ part isn't it?

Hi again guys ok i have decided to go with the 6 inch kit it arrives sat it look good and strong i have 235/75 15 (i think bout 30") i will take some photos before and after and post them up. i will also be changing the exhaust at same time i will try and bend up couple of different systems and and run it up on my dyno them and post results as well before and after to see which make most torque (power as well) it still only has the stock ea81 but it will be good for a laugh anyway i have fitted 2.25 systems before for customers and have found them to rev alittle easier but lose torque which i defintly dont want at moment but i could try it anyway as it seems to be a popular choice on forum.
thanks

thanks
I have chosen a 3" lift for L-Series, as thats was what I made for the MY. My thoughts about bigger tyres above 27" is the gearing headaches begin, but not impossible as suggested, just thats it overgeared at that size alone and does suck a lot of torque out of a EA81.stinky wrote:hear hear!Next Subaru I build will be a 3" lift.
'03 Forester X, stock standard for now.
'89 EA82T Touring Wagon, 5-speed D/R, 14" alloy wheels, bullbar. (Past ride)
