CNC machining

Post by Creamfeeder » Tue Oct 13, 2009 10:21 pm

Just a quick note, by the by. My boss has just ( about three months ago ) bought himself a CNC Machine (flatbed router) , and made me the machinist. He has also given me the go ahead to machine parts from ally. Really interested to see what sort of interest there is for this. expressions of interest?

An idea I thought of when I was on speaking terms with a cranky fat sign fabricator with similar machine.... one piece badge SUBARU or BRUMBY with the raised squarish letters, with optional anodising

And maybe a 4mm Plate for between the starter motor and bell housing, for mine you run a EA gearbox behind an EJ motor?

RE comfort

Post by Creamfeeder » Fri Oct 16, 2009 9:12 pm

Yeah fairly comfortable. Snapped a few bits the other day machining out some engraving work on 12mm ally plates, but a few words with someone wiser clued me up.. Slower spindle speeds, and preferably machine grade ally... However, I am comfortable enough to work around most problems. Plus, I have a fairly adequate Autocad skills, so I can rough out the toolpaths and offsets, 3d and otherwise through it, and then import it into the toolpath software. I like the sound of that raised Brumby badge idea. Might have to have a looka t that. I'll play around in CAD with that and post what I come up with here. Might take a little while though, as work is stupid busy at the mo.

Yeah, I recall sign writer found same learning process , killing a few expen$ive bits with speed being the issue.
