WRX 8/97 man gearbox needed, importers?

Mates workshop has a 97 WRX in need of a better gearbox, current one has input shaft wear on the tip for flywheel spigot shaft bearing. Anyone know of importers EAST side of Australia that are worth a try?

Ratio ? He has been hesitant to tip upside down to remove plug and count crown teeth, but another ID trick is look at WT on top of rear diff. It is hand written in white paint. It has WT - supposed to also lead to diff ratio. Think he is gonna have to count teeth anyway. Might just find self in his bin after this exercise :) :)

im almost 100% sure its a 3.9 ratio.

i have an import 97 wrx ra gear box and rear diff to match bud and the ratio is 3.9 let me know...

if thats a reason to throw out a gearbox, better throw it my way.
bearing places used to sell these sleeves made of stainless steel, you machine the shaft down one size and tap the sleeve on, good as new!
either that or maybe there is a bearing with smaller hole available imperial/metric.
you could knurl the shaft then resize even. only has to join onto bearing doesnt support a heap of weight unless you hang the gearbox off it when installing it.
how would that bit wear out anyway?

Been meaning to get back to you ohsuby, have counted 39 teeth on crown, divide by 9 or 11 does not come up with a nice ratio, but by 10 yep, nice 3.9:1

As it is a customers car need a warranty sort of thing unless price is right. May be putting supply another box on the owner to save warranty shtuff - they can source and get warranty themselves.

speedisleeves may be what you suggest wrxer, by rawhide co., closer inspection shows even the shaft the clutch bearing slides on is way shagged, dissembly and fix up of a recent rebuild box upsets customer already. I was thinking my spare EA82 4WD box casings would solve part of the wear problem and make it possible to fit behind my EA82T :) dreaming here

A lot of the RS boys use Ichiban - seem to have a very good reputation.

I have dealt with same name in Sydney to the extent that I needed to drive to their office to stop the rot and got a price reduction for the engine I had in pieces in my ute.

thats them, speedisleeves. i do forget that we need to treat customers cars differently to our own, in that if it breaks again we can just fix it again.


i only get busted ass heaps to fix and even a bodgie repair will outlast the car. owned by people that can barely afford the petrol to get the car to my place.. blah blah
