Yeah I know I should have gone to Warwick, about 6 years ago I saved one of the inspectors fathers life up at Lancelin & he's been really helpful on other occasions, I only went to E Perth because the boss (Graham) at the time came out to my ex g/f's place and checked all the welding etc after the rear was grafted on about 4yrs ago, I figured as he'd taken pics etc and recorded it it would be safest to go there, but he's at Welshpool now..... POOOP

Another update, I got a letter from the DPI, I have to get engineered so it's booked on for tomorrow night at a place in willeton, i could have put the original suspension back in to get it passed but it could cause insurance problems down the road so there goes another $400 up the pooper, must be on about my 6th permit to drive it now "BASTARDS"!!!!!!!

HAHA, yeah it's seeming that way but it flew through engineering tonight....$400 poorer but I should receive the paperwork on Mon or Tue, then I can take that to Welshpool & get the stamp of approval, then just a matter of taking it to the pits for a final inspection, I was really hoping to sell that white f%$&king Bug Eye, brand new forged motor, re con box & diff, 100K's log booked & I can't get $17g for it GRRRRRRRR, hate the idea of paying rego on 3 cars & a bike.

Well I pick up the approved paperwork tomorrow morning from Welshpool engineering then straight to E Perth (no choice) for re inspection so fingers crossed it'll be legally engineered and on the road by lunch time.

Well look on the bright side of things - at least it will be a legally modified subaru off-roader! Your insurance company should respect that a lot more than finding out after an accident or theft that the car was modified...
Best of luck with it, I'd love to see how this thing goes offroad!
Cheers

Well she passed with flying colours today, still got a heap to do like fit the bash plate, hi/lo box & front LSD.
Finally got some plates on, even though I had to grind them down to fit into the JDM plate area & hold them in with self tappers.

Found one of these nudge bars for $100 today, what you think? fugly but different, it is the original Gravel Express bar which the wheel carrier is off lol.

Yeah I'll see what it's like when I pick it up next week, it's still on the front cut but those side loops are bloody strong, you can see where it's bashed into the guard & left a huge dent but sprung back into place, hey it's only a hunge, if it looks too bad I'll flog it but I do want the car to look a bit different to the average WRX, it also comes with the front skirts.

Well I guess it's time for a bit of an update, Neil (seagull) & his useless assistant (me) have made quite a few mods over the past couple of weeks.
First off was the dual range gear box taken from a 92 Liberty wagon, ripped it apart to find it had recently been re-conditioned so everything was good, I ordered a helical LSD from the States - landed here in a week for $480 and also found a 4.44 cw & p, after a minor mod to the cw it went together well, I now have similar ratio's to a WRX RA box pulling about 3,400 @ 100kph in 5th & of course the 20% lower range, also obviously fitted a rear Viscous & 4.44's, it's a bit noisy but I guess that's to be expected, especially on over run.
Next was the clutch, the WRX is 2,500lb, std dual range is 2,200lb but I managed to get a 3,000lb out of a 09 WRX, these work in the same way as the pull clutch & we tried putting hydraulics in but couldn't get enough throw (1cm) so ended up going the old cable (3cm throw) and so far so good.
Other things done were to re-mount the roo bar welding it to a piece of 30mm square tube mounted between the tow/tie down points which is braced back to the X member on each side for extra strength with a new tow hook mounted to it also.
Fitted a set of Outback X member lifts (32mm ish) and a 25mm lift to everything else as far back as the center tail shaft mounts...the rear was done before.
Mud (sand) flaps.
Changed the weird pod filter intake set up to something closer to a standard Gen 2 set up.
Fitted a VF8 instead of the laggy TDO5 & sorted all the vacuum lines.
Fitted/made a 3" TBE back to the diff & running a std WRX muffler for quietness.
Modded & mounted the huge alloy bash plate and also fitted a diff plate.
Modded the wheel carrier so it sits further away from the rear spoiler.
Modded the center console for the extra lever....
Still on the to do list, put a nice shiny polished bit of alloy at the front from the bottom of the bash plate to the center bar on the roo bar with lots of holes, fit a fan under the bonnet scoop to blow air over the top mount and blow hot air out of the engine bay, probably a set of KYB struts & 1" higher hd springs.

Looking good Tom.. Now you should be able to get to the top of that sand dune

You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

Thanks guys, yup it'll be interesting to say the least, hopefully I'll fix the lousy boost soon, I'm only getting about 8.5psi, hoping for closer to 12-13 & I got an IAVC? code 24 last night so I guess I'll have a go at cleaning that out tomorrow.
I also had problems with the speedo reading about 18-20% higher than it should because of the new gearing but pretty much solved that yesterday by taking the face off a 220kph Liberty speedo and adapting it to the original WRX 260kph speedo by cutting the outer number area off that and placing the 220 one over the top so the needle isn't reading the higher 260 numbers, seems fairly accurate going by what other traffic is doing & the light still shines through because I cut the old back off ( I removed the 220 needle without a problem but didn't want to risk breaking the WRX unit)
