RV, RS or RX?
RV, RS or RX?
To anyone who can help, i'm a soon to be Green P-Plater and a devoted Subaru enthusiast. As my interest does fall into the topic of getting on a track, of course my dream car is an STi. Until then however, I need a car to bridge the gap.
So I ask:
Impreza RS, RV or RX?
Or even a Liberty, basically I just want to know which is the most powerful P-Plate legal Subaru!!

What year models are you looking at buying?
The Liberty is in its 5th generation, the Impreza in its 3rd.
An Impreza is gonna be quicker because they weigh less, so going with that...
The RS was the sporty version, with the same basic trim as a WRX, but with a non turbo engine. Some 02-05 models had a 2.5l engine, so if you have the cash, this would be the one to get.
Looking at Carsales.com, they start at around $9000

This seems to be a much asked question amongst the "P platers" on the board.Unrested wrote: basically I just want to know which is the most powerful P-Plate legal Subaru!!
( I've left the codpiece joke out as well)
Learn how to handle a car safely and competently, before you decide on getting a car that goes really fast or does great burnouts. that way your parents will see you live to give them grandchildren.
Or you could ignore this advice and see if the H6 engined outbacks are legal for you to drive,(if you want a manual one you may have to do it yourself) then we can read about you in the "breaking news" section on Yahoo.

What Toonga said ^^^
Pretty much summs up all P platers - me included back in the day!
What they should really be looking for is the most powerful brakes with the best rubber that will give maximum traction - it might be the one thing that saves their neck. You can still get any car into a situation thats outside the control of a driver, and it doesn't have to be a powerful car either.
Best of luck anyway in your search. At least you're looking at a vehicle for a particular reason and not because a friend of a friend has one that tricked up.
Cheers
Bennie

Also note that any modification to a P plate driven car, even if it fools the police, may allow your insurance company to void your claim. If you run up the arse of a Rolls Royce, this may have a major effect to your wallet, and any future wallets you may own. If you crash and kill or injure somebody, you may be in even more trouble.
What classifies as a modification?
That is up to you and your insurance company to work out. But just remember that they (the multi million dollar company) usually have the last say.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but in the small chance that something bad happens, id rather be safe than sorry

I do understand all that, thankyou for your advice. In my defence however, it's very difficult to get an AWD to do a burnout!! :PTOONGA wrote:This seems to be a much asked question amongst the "P platers" on the board.

SOHC and DOHC arent much different, they both have 4 valves per cylinder.
The only real difference is the DOHC has a better shaped combustion chamber, but it makes bugger all difference in NA form anyway.
If you want the fastest NA Subaru on a budget and P plate legal, an RS Impreza is the go.
