gen3 outback steering rack

hi guys ,have a 99 gen 3 outback 2.5 auto .. just blew out the seals in the power steering rack ,,,, leaking oil badly onto exhaust ,,i need to change racks urgently . i do have a rack out of a gen 1 liberty . are these the same rack ?? will it fit ? thanks heaps khanacross

Clearly you're hoping to have a responce asap but I'm guessing you'll need to be patient young man.

I personally haven't tried fitting a Gen1 rack into a Gen3 but really can't see that there would be much diffence. It's best to fit the same model but just put them side by side and check them throughly. The only major differences I've seen in the racks is the angle of the steering column shaft.

The length of the steering uni joint/knuckle is 1" longer compared to the same model Liberty.
I also think (going back to the start of last year) the spline's on one end of the uni/knuckle are different.
